You ever just get tired of betting/playing poker

even when you're winning? Been playing poker between 2-5 hours for 5 days a week the past 7 months and can't take it anymore.

I don't know how poker pros do it. Playing for 8+ hours a day on top of doing everything else they need to do to be successful like hand reviewing and improving. Major burn out

I've grinded for streches of 3-4 months at a time. I always loose focus for a few weeks maybe month or two, but I go back and after a hand or two I feel like I have not missed a beat.

Not when I'm winning, no I never get tired of poker when I'm winning. When I'm losing? Of course.

It's a real grind. Even pros with an "hourly win rate" have to feel that way.

I'd rather drive Joey Kinish's truck and bet sports instead.

It is very tough, sometimes you need a break, hitting homeruns, playing some video games, making sweet love by the fire then back to taking peoples money is a good rotation

Poker itself is a tuff lifestyle. Many wouldnt know what it feels like to make money you can never spend. Unlike other professions you need an excess of money to continue to make money. Any money spent for living expenses is essentially embezzeling yourself. When you have a job and you make $100 you can spend $100, because you will make another $100; and you know when and where.

And to answer your question...When i was playing 2/5 and 5/10 no limit to make a living( wasnt really my only source of income but it kicked my other jobs ass) it was a very stressful lifestyle for me. The weekly swings in big games are crazy. During this period i got tired of poker. When im playing 5/10 twice a week like i do now strictly for fun i never get tired of it.

Poker is 100x more grueling than sports betting

    You have to take breaks

Sports wise pros take breaks mainly because they do not bet every sport

50nl & 100nl 6-max mostly. Use to play live from time to time but haven't in months.

Going to take a break from it now. Seems like a good time. Will pick it back up during football season.

That and it's one of the few professions you can go to work and lose a lot of money. You really have to be in good physical and mental shape to be a poker pro. Being in good shape helps your mind and body handle the stress. I think that's an often overlooked aspect of playing for a living. It's so easy to neglect taking care of yourself in that environment.

Pro poker player Greg Raymer busted in prostitution sting

Known as 'Fossilman,' the veteran player may have known when to hold ‘em, but not when to fold ‘em as he responds to an ad about prostitutes posted by cops in Wake Forest, N.C. Raymer received a misdemeanor prostitution charge.

If you are playing to move up, or to get money for sports or a business it is ok but playing 1/2 or 1/3 in a casino or multitabling low stakes online forever is not a good life.

To me poker is not stressful because I have seen so much bigger swings in sports betting

A few years back I was betting sports 5+ games a day and playing a fair amount of poker maybe 50 hours a week I was propping at a smaller poker room at the time and after a few months of that I took a break from poker and cut back to only betting 1 game per day and it was like a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders. Its very mentally draining.

i know bankroll management is important in poker too but take a shot at 200 or even 400 just to feel the blood pumping.

then go back to your normal limits.

also try other types of games such as omaha, omaha 8, and stud games.

you just need to change things up. gl

I'm learning how to deal poker right now and we see a lot of burnt out players coming in to get on the other side of the table. Our instructor is also a player, the school's backers are players as well....so I'm getting an extra dose of poker these days and yes, poker daily is a penetrating grind. The swings might be worse in sports betting, especially if you're a solid poker player but bad beats in poker are rough. They take over you, and you can't let them go. Poker's personal, too, remember that. But the best advice you've received in this thread is changing it up...trying a different game, limit...taking a break.

Like everything in life, we need to switch up our routine sometimes.

You bring up a great point about working out. A lot of gamblers let themselves go and they start eating more, stressing out more, hair starts falling out.......I think it's great to have that balance. A lot of the gambler's I respect the most (and I know a lot) balance life in that way. They work out, switch it up, take breaks, party hard, rinse & repeat.

I think if you're going to base your lifestyle off of risk, you need to keep your mind right...

I'm bored to death with poker now. You can only take so many bad beats at a time before you start hating it.

It quickly went from a dream job to a boring grind for me, but I've always needed a certain level of variety to stay interested in something. Paid the bills with it for 2 years and was pretty dissatisfied with it for all but the first month. Now when I play socially or in the occassional tourney it's far more enjoyable...I think damn near anything becomes a grind when you have to do it to pay the bills, and poker is repetitive enough to get old really quick.

I did like to work out though while I was doing it...helped ease the variance by getting at least something accomplished in a week whether I was up or down!

    Poker is like golf.

It's not how good you hit the good ones.

It's how bad you hit the bad ones.

I just blew your mind, right?
