SBR World Poker Cup 2013: 1.2M points + iPad 3

    SBR World Poker Cup 2013

    Team USA
vs Team Canada vs Team Europe vs Team World

    <iframe src="http://www.sportsbookreview.com/video/embed/?videoId=13678" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="330" width="560"></iframe>

    sponsored by DraftDay & Bet365.

    How to make a team

    • Rank in the top 12 for points won during SBR Poker tournament play from April 15th — August 16th. (Schedule)
    • Twelve slots will be assigned for each region. Leaderboards will be posted with standings by country.

Team Match Schedule (August 20th — August 23rd)

    • Twelve tournaments per day from 12:00PM-11:00PM ET.
    • Four players per tournament (1 player from each region).

    Scoring details

    • Each tournament will award 2 points for the winning team, and 1 point for the runner-ups team. Co-champions will be crowned in the event of a tie with an equal division of the pot. A leaderboard will be maintained in Players Talk showing how many points each team has.

    Prize-pool
    Winning team: 3,000 betpoints each
    Runner-up: 2,000 poker pts each
3rd place: 1,000 poker pts each
4th place: 600 poker pts each

Team MVP: iPad 3 or 8,500 betpoints
    *# of points for team
Tiebreaker: # of 1st place wins for team
Tiebreaker 2: If two or more players on different teams are tied after the above, the MVP on the higher placed team will be the victor.
Tiebreaker 2A: If two or more players on the same team are tied after the above, the player who netted the most points during the qualification period will be the victor.

    Fine-print

    1. Must be an SBR Pro to represent a team. Reminders will be sent during qualification period.
    2. Users banned during the qualification period may lose their right to make a team at SBR's discretion.
    3. One entry per household.
    4. Tiebreaker will be SBRforum join date during qualification period.
    5. It will be the responsibility of each team to decide which player will represent them per tourney. Players may compete in only one tournament per day. Players may not share the password with players that have not qualified under any circumstance - no points will be counted for that region. Events will be PW protected & player usernames altered to include region.

With a cap of 40 players per tourney.. Non-pros are allowed to qualify? That is a bit of a raw deal, pros will be blocked out of tournaments.

Next question, this is my first year, I assume the US hold 75-80 percent of posters on here, but US only receives 1 team?

Only one U.S. team. We've talked about it with SBR the past two years, but they like the one team idea.

Believe me there was some serious thought given to this. At the end of the day, you don't have to be very good to represent Yugoslavia in the Basketball Olympics, but to make the American team, you're the best of the best.

We did increase to 12 players in this year's format though.

Ya, would be nice to see the US divided into north/south or east/west or something.

And does each team MVP get the prize, or just the winning team MVP. If its the former, that's awesome

But 40 players maximum and non-pros can take qualifying spots is counter productive

Thank you for your feedback and the questions.

Yes we did reduce table size, but increased buy-in and increased the overall payoffs by paying 12 instead of 20. Less Non-Pros will get in as they only get 6 points per day, Pros always have an advantage in the dailies in that respect. See my above post regarding the teams.

Are you f serious???? First of all there is no Yugoslavia anymore second of all it would be a very strong team if you combine all ex republics in 1 team. And USA would have to play A game to win versus all best in ex. Yugo together i would say in in 4 win series like NBA playoffs would be mostly 4:2 4:3 USA.

Only 12 USA players? Last I heard the US sends the biggest delegation to the Summer Olympics than any other country. How many athletes did Canada send to the last Olympics?

Like the format - just wish the cap wasn't 40 players, however it should not give one tournament advantage over the others because they should all be filled. Now I have to find time to play these.

Also, Team USA has never won in the history of the SBR World Poker Cup so there's a lot of bark and no bite going on here. =)

Will this be the year USA gets over the hump?

I think it would be cleaner to field North/South/East/West US Teams to even out the teams a bit...might see potential problems with people changing their addresses, but I'd think it would be minimal.

Barring that, why not take the total prize pool (79,200 points) and award it to teams based on their populations? For example: if the USA has 75% of the players in the contest, distribute the final points so that the USA's rewards for 1st/2nd/3rd/4th are 4,950/3300/1650/990 respectively (weighted so USA can earn at max 75% of the prize pool). If the point awards are supposed to represent medals, than make a portion of prize pool fixed and the rest proportional. Just a thought to balance things up a bit, albeit probably too late for this year. Plus SBR could save some points if the largest population team didn't place well

It would be cool if you could draft your team, so like a solid player that didn't have time for the tournaments could be drafted in... but also shafts others...

No, top 12 people from each region make up the teams. After the series is done and the top 12 have been verified, then each team chooses what player plays in each of the daily tournaments for the final week.

I don't the issue with this is whether team USA wins the World Cup - it's the fact that it's much harder for those in the US to qualify for their respective team than it is for those in the other regions.

While obviously I'd prefer it be more equitable on the whole - these tourneys are always great so almost whatever the format might be, I'll play! And thanks to SBR for continuing them.

No first you need to beat 12 guys from your region. Now if your region has 100 guys competing for 12 spots and the other regions have 15 guys competing for 12 spots you are in a huge disadvantage.

    Team World.

You can play in about 1/3 of the events and still make the team. Compared with team USA, where you almost have to play every event to have a chance.
