    Hand of the Day

Thinking about posting a hand of the day to start some discussion. I get some hands through books, sent to my phone, personal experiences, etc. Will post a hand every day or two with the results and how it goes over. Feel free to post your own.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
13 players left in a a satellite where the final table (9 players) receives a buy in to the main event. Blinds 500/1000 and antes 100 at 7 person table. Short Stack moves in for 2000 from UTG and got called by Phil Hellmuth (14,000 in stack), Hero on button (34,000) and another pro in the BB (26,000). Hero has Ad 6d and flops a monster

    Pot size: 9,200

    Flop: As 6h 4c

Pro and Hellmuth check. What is hero's play?

    A. Check
    B. Bet around 4k
    C. Bet around 10k

My Answer is C, or a higher bet even. At this point you want the pot for sure, and don't want someone to draw.

    Out of 91 votes...

    19.8% Check
    48.4% Bet 4k
    31.9% Bet 10k
    1 vote per Beerdog: Rigged

Result: It's a popular strategy of a tournament for larger stacks to check it down with a smaller stack in. That said, hero has a monster and doesn't want to give a chance for the pros to catch up. Hero should be around 4k. It'll let Hellmuth & the other pro he's serious without endangering his stack...they'll likely fold and the hero will win a moderately sized pot.

4k is the bet I would probably make.

Would have said 4k, also; and for the same reason you listed.

The question would be if you bet 4k and get called, what do you do on the turn?

Keep posting hands like this .. I enjoy it.

    B. bet about 4k (id bet high 4000s or 5k prob) but i think what the other stacks have is valuable info in a satellite event. i think this is a check if he only has a naked ace in a satellite for sure, personally i may just not even get involved with a6 suited even on the button, it looks like hero has a big enough stack to let the other guys pick off each other and hes at a skill disadvantage.

It's midway through day 1b of the epic poker leagues pro am event, a qualifying tournament where 9 players take a 20k buy in to the main event. Good news is hero has just doubled up, bad news is he has just above 4 big blinds. Action folds around to hero in the sb with one of the worst hands in poker, what's his play?

    2h 7h

    Blinds 250/500 ante 50
hero stack 2k after sb posted
    bb stack 15.6k
    pot 1,200

Thats all the info I was given...

    A. Push
    B. call
    c. Fold

Not sure if I am doing the math correctly because I am replying fast, but is the BB getting almost 2/1 to call with about 10% of his stack? If so, its almost and auto-call for him while you are shoving with the worst hand in poker .... if you do choose to shove.

I know the book says shove, right? But since you are past the BB already, I would hold off and wait until I get another position (hopefully soon) that every folds around to me and then shove, or get lucky and catch a big hand before the next BB hits.

So more than likely I would fold and probably end up pushing with some suited connector or suited one gap cards when it is folded around to me if that big SBR hand doesn't show up.

shove, still have some fold equity and should be live.

    definitely not call.

personally i dont even look and stick it in blind in this spot in a live event.

    Out of 100 votes

    34 - push
    61 - fold
    5 - call

Fold equity is small as the bb has to call 2000 to win 5200. 27s doesn't win 40% of the time here against 2 random cards. Fold and hope you get something in the next 7 hands that's better.

Fwiw, i think if the bb is a big nit a shove is a consideration, but that info was left out.

    Question...
Do I keep this in one thread or make a new one each day?

Think you should start a new thread everyday.

ya, even though this hand/situation is a paradox, I would probably fold unless I had more knowledge of the BB.

I suggest a new thread but then if I knew you would be updating this thread, I don't think that would be a problem either.

    Thanks again Dane!
