played my first live NL tourney tonight.

I did ok. 50 bux entry with two re-buys top prize was 2500.00, top 5 players getting paid. I busted out in 11th place.
Here's what I noticed; a bunch of dumb ass' calling or raising early on. In fact I folded top pair in one hand when one dick over bet and another called him before my turn. there was a flush and straight possible on the board. Neither one had anything! I felt like shit for a while after that hand, but then decided to call all bets with middle pair or better.
I got out with only one rebuy since by the time I was busted out the rebuy was half a big blind, so you'd have to be a dumbass to kick that in.
What are some of your experiences with live torneys? this one was at a catholic church, so no real sharks here, btw.

Sounds very similar to the Tuesday/Thursday noon tourney at my local casino. $30 entry and unlimited $25 rebuy until first break usually gets you to about the same prize pool as you are describing.

It's a lot of retired guys, and yes, they take their shots during the rebuy period. Look for them to adjust slightly once they are out of rebuys. Still probably not really good players th ough.

i played in atlantic city. no rebuys. there were only about 50 people but they knew what they were doing. prob the no rebuys made em play tight. got 3rd so i was happy with that. all depends on the crowd and the toruney structure. i hate playing if theres a rebuy cuz u never know what someone will do if they can afford a rebuy.

I don't think I'd like the unlimited rebuy option. I tried it out since it was a maximum 150 out of pocket. I'm too damned broke to play cash games, I get pushed around too easily, so the tournament option may be the best for me to get live action.
Strange thing in retrospect I'm almost sure I would have called those two bets with top pair if it was online. One of the guys was a friggin math teacher, maybe that intimidated me some, idk.
