My 8 year old daughter has been bugging me to take her to a basketball game all year because she loves the sport a lot. Well, I asked her if she wanted to see an SEC Women's Tournament game. She was so excited about it. I'd never been to one before, so I thought, "Why not?". She bugged me everyday wanting to know how many days until we could go, and she was smiling ear to ear on the way over.
So I take her to the South Carolina-Georgia game tonight. The stadium is filled 1/5 capacity. I only see 2 Gamecock fans in the crowd(I'm not kidding), one section of Georgia fans, and 85-90% Tennessee Lady Vol fans(they played their game at 12:00 this afternoon). As you can imagine, the crowd was beyond dead. I actually would have been better served to take my daughter down the road to the OVC semifinals after I told her that none of these women players were going to slamdunk the ball.
I cannot fathom how these diehard fans are so dedicated to women's basketball. It was the most boring product I ever went to see. There was a man in the stadium actually crocheting a sweater during the game, while he was sitting next to his, what I'm guessing, was his boyfriend. My daughter was ready to leave at halftime.
The funniest thing is she wants to go back and see a men's game next time. She told me that she won't go to another women's game unless she's playing in it herself.
