How does Wisconsin earn such respect?

ND beat them by 8 on a neutral court.

ND has beaten 3 of those top 10---2 on the road or on a neutral court, and they are ranked behind BYU and SD State?

Pitt beat Texas---and they are ranked behind Texas.

Of the top 10 teams, Wisconsin has the second most difficult strength of schedule. Only Georgetown has a tougher schedule (which was insanely tough compared to the others.).

    I am looking at Wisconsin's schedule-----and I don't see it.

And that makes me question how these guys quantify "difficulty".

Wisconsin has one road win against a top 25-ish team. And that was Minnesota.

I am not trying to beat the ND horse---but just objectively take a look at ND's schedule and compare it to Wisconsin's. The "numbers" may say Wisconsin, but the eye test sure points to ND's schedule.

ND won on the road at Pitt, beat Wisconsin on a neutral court---and they are only one of 2 teams with 3 top 10 wins (Also beating Georgetown and Connecticut). Additionally, they played Kentucky, on the road against Syracuse, Georgia, and Gonzaga.

For the record, I am impressed with Wisconsin. They are a very good team, I am just not ready to place them among the top 2 teams in college basketball.

This is a good thread, lots of good discussion.

These power rankings are from Colossus. The Coach's poll has it all wrong.

For simplified spread generating, use the power rankings... This is how many points that team is better than an "average" team. HFA is worth about 3.75.
Wisconsin is not the second best team in the country. GTF outta here. They're almost unbeatable at home, but if we're talking tournament time, all neutral floors, they are not even top 10 material.

    ND -2

    Duke -10

    Pitt -8

that's what some lines would be

terrible rankings. We're supposed to take this seriously?

not sure, just a guess but:

i dont think he actually means spread on the books, i think he means the actual point differential when the game is played. and i can see all of those results being realistic (possible).

so if its kansas -7 against notre dame, thats a 9 point difference in these projections and the spread vegas created off the hype machine and last years teams and big name players and everything else they use. meaning notre dame +7 would be a pretty good bet.
