Tejada, no question, and worst of all he does it in the 9th to end the game.

^ Yes, he's in the top 10. He's tied with 4 other guys in the 8th spot.

With two more last night Jeter has past Mike Piazza and Ernie Banks to move into sole possession of 46th place all time.

Derek Jeter can't hit a ball out of the infield.

Some guys may be ahead of Jeter on the list, but Billy Butlers 25 DP's are far less meaningful than Jeter's 17. The Yankees games are simply more important. I'd say an out for the Yankees are easily worth 2+ for the Royals.

That makes no sense, if anything it's the other way around. Yankees have had a top offense for some time and they have more opportunities to score.

I gotta agree with Naz here. Jeter's end an inning for his team; Butler's end what may be one of only a few scoring chances in a game for his team

I get what your saying, but I wrote what I meant.

Given what is at stake for each team....The Royals racing toward an October hunting or Golfing trip, and the Yankees racing toward the post season. Each and every pitch and at bat carries a premium for the contender.

That inning crushing double play Jeter hits into again and again means more also because the guys waiting behind can do serious damage. The guys waiting behind Butler are more like waiting for the bus back to tthe minors.

Again. Jeters double plays hurt twice as much as Butlers.

But you really can't tell each scenario of the double plays, like what if 75% of Jeters DP came when the Yankees had a lead of 3 or more runs. While 75% of Butlers DP came when the Royals were down.

But even so, forget Butler, look at the top 20, you got some good hitters on some good teams on that list.

I'd go with Tejada. Kevin Kouzmanoff is always good for a DP too. As much as he strikes out, it's amazing how he seems to hit into a DP every time he puts the ball in play.

    This is a great thread.

It's fun to bash Jeter once in a while but he's slow, what can you do. Yanks get guys on base; you're gonna hit into a bunch of dp's with, holy cow, 663 at bats. The real winner lives in Philly.

The # of dp's doesn't scare me so much, it's the dp's per opportunity that makes you cringe. WILSON VALDEZ was a utility player for the Phils last year with truly scary numbers with double plays. Get some perspective, he finished 5th in the NL with 20 groundouts. Guess the number of at bats? 333. HALF of jeters, and he was in the running for the league lead. It's fun to watch in a weird way, the DP balls he hits are the most routine of routine, kinda what I imagine it's like to be a Pirates fan, every day.

For those of you counting at home, that's a double play in 6% of, not double play opportunities, but all AT BATS!

*to his credit, he was batting 8th, behind Ruiz with an obp of .400*

and the anti DP award goes to Carl Crawford, hitting into only 2 double plays 132 opportunities. Sox are going to like that
