Is the Riviera the best place to stay while in Vegas?

provided you bring your own vacuum cleaner of course..thoughts?

centrally located, great atmosphere, 48 oz beers in the gift shop on the main floor, hookers right across the street by the slots o' fun bus stop..

If your going cheap and older I think Imperial Palace would be better too. During spring break you are closer to O'Shea's and Barbury Coast as well. But if you are in love with the hookers I can understand picking the Riv. Do they have really old rooms in separate towers like Circus Circus? If you really like hookers just get weekly at Harbor Island by the Hard Rock. Should be full of them.

Good location but that's about it... the place has really gone down hill the past ten years or so...

Would not go near that place. Way too much risk involved on many fronts. Why not consider the " all suite" Rio Hotel which offers free shuttle service to the strip?

Damn this thread has me wanting to watch "The Hangover" or "Casino" again on dvd right about now. Just hearing people talking about Vegas or the strip has me wanting to be there in the moment. **** it, go nonstop and pull an all nighter the whole time, then it doesn't matter where the room is because you'll never be in it except for a shower or shave. You can sleep on the plane ride back, or like some people say when you're dead. Have fun wherever you decide. Me personally, I'd just pick the cheapest fuckin place on the strip and use the money you saved on hotel fare for gambling, hookers, food, blow, bail money etc.

Centrally located is about all it has going for it. I wouldn't be my first choice.

Hard to call the north strip centrally located to anything tourist related in Vegas... Centrally located between the real strip and the pawn shops/wedding chapels/downtown's detention center perhaps...

FYI this thread was a joke. I've stayed at this dump before, a couple of years ago and I don't imagine it has gotten any better. Going to Vegas in a month and me and a few friends were looking at Vegas.com packages last night and this was the cheapest package that came up. Like $400 for 6 days hotel and airfare combined. Never stayed downtown before, but will be this year. Stayed at Excalibur last year and the Riv the year before.

I'm confused...not only is the Riviera the ABSOLUTE SHITIEST hotel in Las Vegas, but it has the WORST location as well. What are you guys talking about its "central location"? I blieve you guys have the riviera mixed up with another hotel. The Riviera is the worst hotel on the strip, and has the worst location...it is located at the very, very, very, very, very north end of the strip...10 minute walk past the Wynn. Circus Circus and The Rviiera are literally isolated by themselves, they are not even close to the rest of the strip. If you want to go cheap but be in the middle of the strip, stay at The Flamingo. It's actually not bad at all.

Im still taken aback how people are touting the riv's location. It has, without question, the worst location on the entire strip. You would be about a 10 minute walk from the Wynn, and like 20-30-40 minutes away from everything else lol. Of course you could just cab it everywhere you go, but that would be 10-20 bucks a pop and the whole point of your post is to conserve as much cash as possible.

Stay at the Flamingo. Trust me. DO NOT stay at the riviera.

I agree the Riv would be a poor choice for many reasons. Cheap isn't worth it when you non-working AC and elevators that take 30 minutes......

Where are you staying downtown? I'm much more forgiving of the Riv than most people I know, and I think it's a step up from all the downtown joints except the Nugget. Good luck wherever you're staying...

I stayed in a suite at the Riviera and it was very nice. I was also betting around 50-75 bucks a hand on blackjack and they treated me like a roller. You get what you pay for with this casino, but I wouldn't call it a dump. I like the "old school" Vegas feel of this place. I also liked the Stardust when it was around too. These casinos treat average players like myself ALOT better than the Wynn or Bellagio IMO.

Imperial Palace is the best 'cheap' place to stay. Middle of strip. If you are part of Harrah's rewards, you can stay there free probably.

Boyd (the parent company of Coast Casinos) was building Echelon AKA Echelon Place where the Stardust and Westward Ho used to stand, but they suspended construction after the economy went down the toilet. The building's skeleton has been sitting untouched and rusting for over 2 years.

Best bang for your buck on the strip and on Fremont Street is still Golden Nugget. Rooms are relatively cheap year round and the rooms are clean. If you MUST be on the strip, Wild Bill's ain't bad.
