Is Byron Scott at fault for Cavs losing ways?

Another Cavs thread for you guys. Funny how this whole season has been going down the shitter for the Cavs and Scott has pretty much taken a back seat to any media scrutiny.

There has been some talk on Cleveland radio about his lack of committment to this team. Notably, that he repeatedly shows up later than the team for practices and games and sometimes leaves earlier than the team after games.

I believe it's one of two things... he decided a long time ago that this was a bad decision, not after leneck left, but of course that had something to do with it, but probably after their first losing streak of the season and he realized this team wasn't going to compete for years.

Or maybe he is just trying to get this season done and over with so he can completely reconstruct and rebuild this team... start to bring in his guys and dump guys that aren't his and hope that next season looks a lot brighter.

What do you guys think... should Scott be held accountable at all for this? Do you think he is the reason for any of this mess? Hot seat or no way?

He is going to get fired

He is not putting in the effort, players know he is a lazy bum so they are playing like it

No way it's Scott's fault. I understand that LeBron WAS the team and could single handedly win 40 games. But this team has no personnel at all right now. Look at this starting 5 against Detroit:

    Jameson
    Hickson
    Sessions
    Parker
    Eyenga

Are you fukking kidding me? Jameson has never been a #1 player on a team his entire career until now. JJ Hickson is going to be a dominant player in this league eventually, but he's still not consistent. The last 3 are poor excuses for starters. This team is really stuggling to deal with the injuries to Williams, Powe and Varejao - that's the big point.

Injuries, poor personnel and let down from LeBron are the faults...not Byron Scott.

Danny Ferry is to blame... and it all started way back in '05 when they missed on their first choices in free agency and panicked and overspent for Larry Hughes, Damon Jones, and Donyell Marshall.. the cavs have been cap strapped since that foolish spending, with their only recourse being to trade expiring contracts for worse ones..

the nail in the coffin was last feb. when Ferry refused to give up JJ Hickson in a trade for Amare Stoudemire

is scott really carrying himself in that manner?? never really cared to follow cav's news.

if so, he should shoulder some of the blame and is only hurting his future prospects on the coaching carousel. not grinding it out will raise flags with other organizations.

Great call, Profane! You're taking it deep and finding the root of the problem. It wasn't just LBJ leaving Cleveland, but like you said, poor GM decisions and overpaying for average talent.

Of those three players, the only one I THINK about paying a decent contract to was Larry Hughes. Jones and Marshall were just awful.

after watching cavs game last night it is completely scotts fault. i always thought he did terrible at new orleans but he had talent to cover it up. the cavs play well but the little things kill you (turnovers, help d etc) and that is all on the coach for not lack of discipline.

Good feedback so far... the reality seems to be that everything is just a big mess for this organization right now. As far a Scott goes, it's a coin flip whether he stays or goes, but I assume he'll at least have next year to turn things around. Looking back, the best thing the Cavs could have ever had happen to them was getting Izzo to sign. He is one of the best basketball coaches ever... maybe Scott will prove worthy next year, but at this point he needs to shoulder some of the blame.

A coach can only "be to claim" for a few losses in tight games. This team downright sucks and has a starting five that none would touch the court other than off the bench on normal teams.

As my granddaddy used to say when I was a little boy:

You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

And the Cavs have a bunch of sow's ears for players...

Take any team and remove 3 of their starters and see how they do.....

Obviously most or none would do this bad, but they would be far from competitive.

Look at Izzo's team now....he wouldn't have changed anything in Cleveland

NBA should contract this franchise when they do new labor deal. Team is an absolute abortion and owner didn't do himself any favors when Lebron split.

Not a chance... Cleveland supports a shitty product as well as any city in the US. They support a good product just as well, if not better. Team support from the fan base is not the issue, therefore contraction should not be mentioned.

Byron Scott took the Nets to B2B Finals a few years ago. He knows how to coach. I blame the owner. No one is gonna want to play for that dude no matter who their coach is because of that letter he put out after Lebron left. He came across as extremely unprofessional.

No quality FA will go to CLE while Gilbert owns the team after his tirade when Lebron left. The players will always side with the players and he's pretty much dug his own grave and Clevland's until he's gone. Actually if he threw a truckload of money at someone I'm sure they'd bite.
