Here's the deal, you need to keep it all in perspective. Don't let it consume your life. If your not good at gambling, keep it cheap.

I gamble really small, from $2 to $10, and only when I am going to see a game with friends and buy nachos, drink beers etc. I do it just for the rush. But not everyday and not everyweek either.

I only gamble like a crazy person when I buy freeplays from SBR and that is comming to an end soon too.

Melo, you get it. Many of these other guys never will. They think "wow I am gonna make all the money in the world betting on sports".....it just doesn't happen like that. I gotta think 99% of bettors lose long-term.

Actually, it's not %5. It's only %2 according to Tony Stoffo..but if you ask my opinion, it's lower then %1.

Majority of betting public are betting for fun/addiction, whatever you call it. Many bettors try to handicap games but only few of them can come up with an edge.

Public like betting on favourites. Very hard to find "value" on favs. They're usually overpriced. Many times, favourite is in a must-win situation or they're clearly the better team. But upsets happen in hockey*..err..I mean all sports! Specially in Major American Sports! That's why betting on dogs is profitable..but of course you should not bet on every dog blindly. You have to pick your spots.

Develop a handicapping model/system. Test it. If it runs over the long haul, you will make money if you have good money management skills. Maybe you can come up with a dog system like me.

*Hockey is my favourite sport. I love my Iron Dogs

I gamble for the rush, it's even better when i lose than when I win. When I win i know i have to keep gambling so I will be under more pressure, when i lose I'm initially devastated but then slowly the pressure goes away.

I can't quit, I won't quit, i have no idea which it is. I have tried hundreds of times before but always come back, i may last a day, week, or a couple months tops. When I have funds I'm back gambling again.

Recreationally gamblers, ok so you aren't addicted idiots like myself, your better than that. You can control gambling rather than having it control you. But still why do you do it? Can't you find more enjoyable ways to spend your money? If you don't really get a thrill from it what do you find enjoyable about it?

I want to quit, but I know I'll be back soon. Do I love the abuse? Do I hate money? Or do I have an addiction I just can't beat? I wish I knew and I wish there was something I could do about it.
Well, this is not completely right, the % of winners is 2%, not 5%. I don't think you hate money nor you love the abuse. You have a problem, but an emotional problem. When it comes to sports betting you have to put emotions aside and think straight. If you can't do that you have a problem and you will need help. Before you start betting in sports you need to know how are the betting lines calculated. This is the first step. You have to be able to know what the lines will be before the sportsbooks show the lines. You have to know all the trends in each sports. You have to be able to see how bad are most of the handicappers. Yes 98% of them are dangerous, the rest are just helpful. You need to have money. If you are making 10 dol per hour, go back to school. If you lose a game you have to be able to know why, there is always a why, and learn from each mistake. If you are unable to persue a carreer where 90% can, this is not for you. Once you have all this you will benefits from creating a group to study and analizing all the stats out there. Again make sure you have plenty of money. Don't you dare to bet you kid's collegue. If you ever get plenty of money, stop, invest in real bussiness and come backs stronger and more confident. If this is too much for you, just make sure to know that you will lose and go easy. If betting makes you happy and keep you away from beer, smoking and drugs then you are a big winner, just bet smart. Goog luck.

GUYS: I'm not going to write a book on this but when I was young I watched my father bet all the time.He bet on everything he could. Without knowing how much, there is no question that he got crushed over time. His stories of losing are epic. You name a famous moment, he had the loser.Any sport.
If you watch it happen to others it is not very pretty.I have seen so many losers from my years at the track it makes me sick.Really nice people too.
Next time you go to the track instead of betting, just watch the people at a T.V. monitor .They root, they lose, they bitch, and within minutes, they are doing the 2 minute handicap at another track. And it will repeat every 5 minutes. It is pathetic. You do not have to be this kind of bettor.
I decided decades ago that I had to approach this from a different angle. After years of watching and learning I got to the point where I flat out refuse to wager on anything without feeling as though I have an edge.I keep records of every play and have since 1981.
Do not let gambling break you. Stop friggin losing.Make up your friggin mind that you will watch and learn and you can start by not playing anymore favorites or overs unless the line is very soft.
This double up and all in crap is for losers.
Read Justin's book.Do anything but for Christs Sake do something.
If I can do it , you can.
You just have to want it.And it won't happen over night.
