The Problem
In baseball, a player's batting average represents the ratio of hits to at-bats and is expressed as a three-digit decimal. So if a player has a .300 average, he gets a hit 3 times out of 10 times going to the plate.
A player with a .250 goes up to bat. He strikes out, and his average drops to .248.
How many hits did he have before that strike out?
20 points for the first correct answer.
Additional 20 points if you can demonstrate it wasn't a lucky guess.
