William Hill Changed my bet - print screen

    Hello,

I have made a complaint on SBR on the 28/07/2008 at 09:19 PM...
As I do not received any contact I decided to turn it public. (EDIT: My mistake, I was contacted today by SBR - email, I did not saw it, sory)

On the 26 of July at about 12h I made a bet at William Hill, precisely on 14h20m ASCOT race. I made a bet of 50£ on "Talking Hands" @ 6.00 odd.

As seen before on bookies, anything can happen, so I ALWAYS cheeked if the bet as been placed and if it is correct, and I take a Screenshoot, and so I did in this one.
At about 14h, I see that my bet as been changed from "Talking Hands" to "Prime Delivery" @ 7.00 odd.

Immediately I start writing a e-mail asking why as my bet been changed.

Unfortunately (as the bet was changed) the worse I bet won the race ("Talking Hands").

After a couple of changed emails, William Hill did not accept that my bet was changed, so I confronted them with my proof (Screenshoot) and after that email they asked me if I could send them the screenshoot.

I send the screenshoot, but even then they do not accept that as proof...

They say it is impossible for their system to be wrong, so I can only supposed that my bet was intentionally changed, and that figures as a more serious act.

William Hill as stayed with 50£ of the bet, and another 250£ from the winnings..
And the 100£ freebet of the bonus, as they just suspend my account

No way is it intentional - in fact I'd go as far as saying William Hill is the safest book for your funds anywhere on the planet (their odds suck, but that's another matter).

They aren't totally competent though, which is probably where this comes from. I once waited 3 weeks and countless emails/phone calls for them to credit a moneybookers deposit - they just couldn't find it, even after I gave them the transaction ID. Really unimpressive.

I never though it could be intentional, but as they stated that it is impossible for the system to have a error, I can only assume that it was.

Put it this way: they have yearly profits in the low hundreds of millions (which means income of many billions). I doubt they're much bothered about 50 quid.

Not sure quite where you can go to persuade them though. My experience with moneybookers above did suggest they're a bit deaf to complaints.

First off, Welcome to the SBR forum sir.

This is the first time I've ever heard of an issue like that before from Will Hill. I noticed you filled out a complaint for already, so let us investigate this matter a bit further.

The artefacts on that screen shot are a little concerning to me:

This certainly seems like a doctored screen shot case to me. I just don't see how it would be possible for things to get messed up like that.

The artifacts are fascinating, I will not pass judgment but give you advise. Get a free pdf printer software, and use it to print all your betting receipts to pdf files, screenshots are not valid betting reciepts at any of the books i play at, however the PDF betting reciept is.

If you sent the email to them before the event started, that is compelling with everything else. Would you forward me the emails you sent them?

The race is the 14:00 at Ascot. The posters message above indicates that she didn't start writing the email until 14:00. It also states the race was the 14:20, when it was clearly from the screenshot the 14:00.

    This race in fact: http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:x...ient=firefox-a

I am not going to comment on this particular incident, but Willy Hilly's site does have issues. I once had the following:
    Hi xxx,

    Thank you for your reply.

Having further investigated your query we have found that the selection names were inverted on the coupon and therefore, clicking on New Jersey did bring up the selection of Philadelphia.

When the selection was added to your betting slip you were presented with a screen asking for you to enter your stake. At this point the screen stated that your bet would be placed on Philadelphia and it was not until a stake was entered that your bet was placed.

Having considered all of the information available and the fact that we had no contact to inform us of the error until after the competition had finished we have taken the decision to void your bet and return the total stake of £2273 back to your William Hill Account.

We trust that this action resolves the issue that you have experienced.

    Regards

    Tony

The first post was edit yesterday, and I have the reason on that... And no one as even response until that.

I know is hard to believe in what I say, but it is true.
By being ridiculous you are not helping a bit, you are just counting more posts on your account.

As for the race I truly believe that it was the 14h20 race, but if it was the 14h race, the story is the same.
Sory for the mistake, but what does that as to do with a bet being changed

This all does seem very odd, but it wouldn't surprise me. Will Hill are bastards, they've voided various bets of mine for no reason at all, even limited me for a while when I was only betting in the £50 region. Never had a bad experience with any other british book, but Will Hill are absolute scum.

I thank you very much, I will try to do that from now on, even doubting that they would accept it if I had it.

It's not that it has them, your first one has them, it's the pattern (and quantity) of them on the Talking Hands one compared to the other.

The same thing as just happened to me

I sure am glad that I just found this post.
I have just been blatantly robbed and if that was not enough , taken for a complete fool , by a william hill telephone attendant , I placed a live bet on nfl on a team that was paying 16/1 , I placed 20 pounds on it , now when I clicked for the bet to be accepted , perhaps my net connection was slow or something but nothing happened , I clicked again , and then noticed that I had been charged 3 times the original 20 pound bet , which I thought was a little more risk than I expected , but guess what it turns out that Green Bay wins , andhere I am celebrating that I have won a decent return , only to find out that instead of paying me at 16/1 they chose to really take the piss and pay at 1/100 thats right , in my wisdom I would risk 3 lots of 20 pounds to gain 20 pence on each. The stament screen was changed as well , the thing is that I normally keep my open bets screen open so I can actually follow the bets that I have made since I often place several bets here goes what has just happened:

    plan to seek legal advice

I still have the open bet page open and I am planning to seek legal advice , the telephone attendant claims that they made an error in the prices, and thats that end of story .
When I asked what would have happened if Green Bay actually lost , would I have been refunded , she then began to sound like a broken record stating those are the rules.
Screww this I have placed so much money into these thieves and they deny me what I have rightfully won , this is not right , can someone help with advice on where I can go , regardind this incident.

just received a reply from these crooks

    here goes:

    Dear Sir/Madam,

We are unfortunately writing to inform you of a display error that occurred on the William Hill website for the Minnesota @ Green Bay competition. The price for Green Bay was inadvertently displayed as 16/1 and then 12/1, when it should have displayed as 1/100 and 1/50 respectively, and as such your bet has been captured incorrectly.

In accordance with Rule 19 Terms of Use of William Hill website :

“Should we mis-state any odds or terms of a bet or gaming wager to you as a result of obvious error in inputting the information via the William Hill Websites, or as a result of a computer malfunction, the bet or game will be deemed to have taken place on the correct terms or prices which were available through William Hill (absent the publishing error) at the time that the bet was struck, and the game or bet will be deemed to have taken place on the terms which were usual for that game.”

In relation to this rule your bet(s) will be settled at the correct odds.

If you have any further queries regarding your bet on the above competition or any other subject please contact our Customer Services department on UK freephone 0800 085 6296, International freephone 00800 3551 3551, or by e-mail at customerservices@williamhill.co.uk.

    With regards,

    Customer Services

Books make mistakes on live betting quite often from what i've seen, Green Bay should have never been 16/1 that game, you took a shot and should have known the bets weren't going to be honored.

16-1 wouldn't have been the price on Minnesota after GB took a 24-12 lead.

Oak is -17/+900 at 5Dimes. GB was ahead nearly the entire game. Bad line, period.

I completely agree.....This might be the most pathetic example of shot-taking I've seen in quite a while, perhaps ever.....

Then to go on about getting legal assistance and such.....That is completely laughable.....

Betting into a bad line will only lead to many problems. In fact just yesterday I reported a game that a book had left on the board even after it ended and I wouldn't doubt if I receive an email from somebody complaining about how the book cheated him out of a winner.

16/1 on GB , and you "accidently" bet it 3x , good luck buddy, you took a shot and didn't payoff, of course had it lost they would've kept your money, probably a bad idea to take shots at obviously bad lines

EDIT: I've just found the thread relating to this on the forums, apologies!

Sorry to dig up an old post, but is it possible to ask if there was an outcome to the original poster's issue?

(For those that were saying the screenshot looked doctored, I agree. However, when I save screenshots from William Hill into paint and save as jpeg, they do appear doctored exactly like that! Saved as a high quality file they appear proper.)

In the Sunday Times today, they had this article on William Hill and its finances: http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle5114368.ece
