LeBeau's had a previous stint as Steeler's D-coordinator in '95 & '96. In '95 they played in the Super Bowl. LeBeau then left after '97 season. Cowher failed to make the playoffs 5 out of the next 7 years. LeBeau comes back in as D-coordinator in 2004 & they get to the AFC title game & all of a sudden the 2005 team wins the SB. Cowher retires the next year. Tomlin was a defensive backs coach for 5 years at Tampa. He went to Minny & was a D-coordinator for 1 whole year of his career and ran Kiffin & Dungy's Tampa 2 there. They finished the season 6-10 and Tomlin's D had the worst pass defense in the league. He then magically gets the HC gig at Pitt for 2007 & inherits LeBeau's defense. The 2008 Steeler team wins another SB. Besides the Rooneys, Dick LeBeau is the common denominator here with Cowher & Tomlin. They run LeBeau's 3-4 D in Pitt not Kiffin/Dungy's 4-3 Tampa 2 (Tomlin's background). This makes 4 super bowls appearances in 9 seasons for LeBeau as Pitt's D-coordinator. He made a mistake of going to the worst organization in the NFL in Cincy in the late 90s with limited talent and he may not have been a good head coach, but he is the best D-coordinator in the game. He invented the zone blitz & the reason the Steelers have gone to the SB in the modern era. Tomlin is nothing more than a puppet like Jim Caldwell that gets to call time outs & that received a gift head job. Cowher had some good seasons but couldn't get to the big dance without Dick. Cowher & Tomlin both get too much individual credit. With all that said though, I still think the Steelers will get beat Sunday.
