Seriously considering moving to get away from this climate--any serious suggestions

I am getting really sick of NE Pa weather. Too old to put up with it and really considering moving. If it weren't for family I would have been gone already. Must sell my property first. Now, I want some place with decent weather but would consider still having the seasons. West coast is obvious but I am eliminating that area because of travel concerns for family. Florida is out, and so is Miss and Louisiana. I am thinking maybe some of the not so crazy Southern states. What about Kty? I did some research and discovered that it is rarely lower than the low 30's in the winter months.

How about some serious suggestions guys. What are the drawbacks, I don't want to jump out of the fire and into the... meaning giving up this weather for horrendous hurricanes or constant flooding or worse. Where in your opinion is the ideal state or states in this wonderful country of ours? Considering all including crime.

    thanks

What about Charlotte or Raleigh? I've heard North Carolina is a really nice state and it seems like they have decent winters

What do you mean by travel concerns in the west coast? Stage coach bandits or what?

Anywhere south of the Kentucky/Tennessee border will give you great winter weather. Mild winters in the 40's-50's and occasional snow so you can make a snowman at least once a year.

I have a young daughter-in-law that teaches and is constantly taking about moving to I believe it is N Carolina because of a children's book publishing company I think.
Not sure about that, she wants to write kiddie books.

God I would love SD. Wouldn't see family enough though. Maybe I will still consider it. Like heaven living in SD, I know that.

I want out of the Northeast, ( Ct) too !

Have lived in SD, it's nice but expensive and bad traffic. I don't really want to go back to LV. NC/ SC seem like decent options, I'd consider anywhere on the coast from NC counterclockwise to San Diego, maybe even Texas or arizona, can't afford Vancouver, BC.....don't want to have to learn Spanish and move to central America, would like to be able to find a job, too !

If it was like that no one would live in the northeast.

I lived in LA as well as SD area. No comparison. SD is MUCH nicer. LA is freeway hell.

I would suggest Arizona, by the way. Wide open spaces. And you can wear guns in public here.

As for me, I couldn't handle [or want to] the hot Arizona weather. Also, no water forever. SD is hotter than LA, right?

No. If you're in 'the Valley', which is much of LA, the heat gets trapped. SD often has a nice ocean breeze, and the area, in summer, is cloudy in the morning with the sun breaking through around noon. Keep things cool. (this caused a major track bias in Del Mar).

If possible from a work perspective live in Northeast 8 or 9 months and go to Florida for 3 or 4 months. I am planning to do that starting next year. I am selling my house in Bucks County PA, buying a place in NE PA and buying a place in Jacksonville FL.

    coast of Carolina is beautiful
    but no jobs and hurricanes
usually winter is mild here but not lately. normal snow is twice a decade, last two years has been about 5 storms.

I agree, I live in Myrtle Beach, SC. Sitting here now at 9:05pm with the windows open enjoying the ocean breeze.

I had the same issue with the weather in Canada.
So I ended up in Chile.
Lots of American ex pats are here actually... living in either the capital or near abouts, or down south. Apparently down south in Chile is very similar to the West Coast in the US, so a lot of Yankees like to retire down there.

yeah, I moved in w/ my wife into an apartment in Wilkes Barre 9 years ago. She is a CT transplant and the company told her Wilkes Barre is nice. It was the worst 7 years of my life living there. I couldn't stand it. We finally bought a house 2 years ago in a nicer location about 8 miles away.
