    Too All You Young Guys

I have noticed that an influx of young people have been posting on here recently. Now I am nobody"s father, but I just wanted to give some advice from an older person's perspective.

Take your $$ and save it!! You have all the time in the world to gamble for a living. I know gambling for a living is a sexy thought, but their is a lot more involved in the lifestyle than just $$. Trust me, get married and settle down. If gambling is still something you want to do, it will be there.

Ignore people that want to rain on your parade. Obstacles in gambling for a living are from within. If you can conquer the outside voices of negativity, and stay focused on your well being, you are half way to being a professional. A guy that wins 66% of his games and stays focused in regards to bankroll and profession does better than the guy that wins 70% of his games. I have seen so many people in Vegas who are GREAT at handicapping but suck at life skills!

Take the action out of your day. Stop expecting to bet a game a day. If it happens it happens. Bet like you date. if a great piece of ass comes along, grab it. If nothing shows promise STAY AWAY. Action doesn't pay the bills, patience does.

Last but not least, LOOK FOR PRICE AND odds!! You like Boston +2.5 but you can get them for +3 somewhere else. Don't be lazy. Shopping for the best price is HUGE in being a pro gambler. Treat gambling like a coupon cutter in a Walmart. yes, it may be more work, but in the long run, it is worth it.

I hope what I said is a bit helpful. Good luck newbies!!!

Good advice. I've been gambling for less than a year but to me its not like a job. Its something I actually enjoy doing. Its the rush I suppose. I think being a professional sports gambler like Billy Walters would be a hellva way to make a living.

Yup Im 21 and i started gambling at age 16, quit sportsbetting when i was 19 not because i lost a extreme amount of money but because the opportunity costs involved in it are protrude. You get get a Job making $6 an hour part time and make more money over the long haul unless you have a 200k + bankroll. Just isnt worth it to me and it becomes way to stressful in your every day life. Every since i stopped betting daily my life has changed so much.

I have a pretty decent job and contribute 20% of income to 401k/Roth IRA and make another 1500 a month playing low stakes poker with bomb promotions at a local casino for approximately 35 hours a month. Happiest i been in my life.

sports gambling is just a disease that you cant control.

i dont do it for excitement i do it to make money. If you gamble for excitement and can keep your loses to a minimum i can see it as paid entertainment or free entertainment but if you gamble for simply a thrill and expect to win your in denile.

    "Get married and settle down"????????

That is the worst thing you can ever do in life Son, it leads to financial ruin in approx 75% of marriages and too me that is fukkin gambling

Guy go to work and save money because there is not a lot of it out there anymore

I'll be the first to admit that kids and marriage are challenging to say the least... And may not be for everyone. But my kids are what give me drive and keep my head on straight. If you find the right woman to take care of you and your kids it is worth it. It takes a certain kind of man to choose this path in life... But it does take a man, which is a lot more than some degenerates ever amount to be in life.

And just because you have a wife and kids doesn't mean you have to "settle down"... My wife and I still party and enjoy the finer things in life.

Don't be such a cynic goldbond.

    the original post is ridiculous
thinking anyone can win 66% or 70% long-term is absolute insanity

if you're a newbie then there are 2 choices you can make
    1) continue to bet and feel the drip of juice/payout fees/etc on the sports side and rake on the poker side until your bankroll keeps needing to be replenished
    2) take advantage of internet sportsbook bonuses at every site rated "b" or better, keep betting against yourself (preferably on baseball where you can usually find very small differences like -102 on each side). also take advantage of free contests/poker at places like sbr

choice 1 has a 0% chance of success over 10 years and takes a lot of effort handicapping
choice 2 has a 100% chance of success over 10 years and takes no effort other than looking at lines and cashing checks

sorry one more point that has cost me and countless others here a lot of money:

DISABLE THE CASINO AT ANY SPORTSBOOKS YOU ARE USING AND DON'T EVER RE-ENABLE IT

if you want to play blackjack/paigow, whatever, do it with your betpoints
there have been quite a few times in my life where i got drunk and pissed away $1000 worth of sportsbook money in the casino

Finding a woman you love WILL NOT stop you from gambling constantly. Been there done that and I gambled more and more. Having sex while keeping my phone methodically placed near the bed on auto refresh as I was pounding my ex girl was my first inclination that women make gambling worse, not better

Mike, the percentages I used were hypothetical. I will say though that you CAN win over 60% of the time in sports. That can (and has) been done over lengthy periods.

This is a great post and advice. Don't gamble when you are young because you can't afford to lose it all. And no chick likes a lad who gambles. Have you ever heard a girl say: "You know my boyfriend is very hot. Instead of staying with me he gambles on football games and he is very respected at gambling forums!!"

I beg to differ. I've met many chicks who think gambling is sexy as hell, they just don't like avdegenerate loser. But I live close to Atlantic City and half the casinos are filled with hot broads with their men who are playing at the tables

Trust me if these "men" didn't have daddy money playing in AC these broads will never get near close to them. Take a guy who goes to AC with $100 with a hot broad and loses it all gambling and see if you see him next week with a hot broad when he is broke.
