Best advice to a starting gambler

Hey, Im just starting to begin gambling for the first time, but strictly as a hobby (at least I hope so). So what is the best advice you have, advice you wish you knew starting out in this crazy gambling world?

    Thanks in advance

It's not as easy as it seems. Chasing will kill you. Don't think you can't lose 7 in a row, you WILL.

You are going to lose money. Have you seen the vegas strip? If the players' were winning it would look bombed out beirut. Stick it out and don't bet more than you can afford to lose. No power bill money. Everything else is fair game, lose with your plays............not espn's, fox sports, degenerates on this site, or pay sites. Good luck.

My advice...stick to NHL and MLB. Bet home dogs, occasional big dogs, and don't back more than small favs. Avoid totals for right now.

Bet points at the SBR Book. If you can beat them after a year then you can deposit cash offshore and gamble. If you can't beat them keep trying until you do.

Brock Landers is supernaturally gifted. When he's locked in and consistent, whether it be winners or LOSERS, he is a Zeus-like force to be reckoned with. Professional teams ask Brock for his plays just so they know if it's even worth trying. Some athletes and coaches pray to God. Smart ones pray to Brock, begging them to pick their opponent, which is tough when the opponent in question is being offered plus money on the moneyline. Bernie Madoff asked Brock for scamming advice. Bill Clinton took tips from Brock on how to lie without conscious. I think you understand.

Landers's plays are in such high demand that you don't have to look hard to find them. If they are not on the first page PT, then they don't exist.

Just like everybody, you will lose in beginning, early years. If you're smart and educate yourself about value betting, money management, discipline patience; you may have a shot to make profit over long haul. But in order to gain these traits, you may need to lose a lot. Experience don't come easy. You lose, you learn. If you're not a degenerate gambler and if you can turn your losses/defeats in experience, -and realize failure is a great thing- you may fail your way to the top at the end.

But remember, very few people (%2 according to Mr. Tony Stoffo but I believe this number must be below %1) are making money over the long haul. All the rest, are losing. Why? Because they treat it like a hobby. They bet for fun. What's so funny about it? I really don't understand. In your early years, you will enjoy it. The joy of gambling, winning a beat with a final buzzer etc. But if you're betting for fun, it may cause you to make fun bets, action bets.

Some people say bet for fun, bet small etc. I strongly disagree. Sports betting must be taken as an investment, a business in my opinion. What's so fun about losing money over long haul? What's so fun about losing your super-fantasy-fun 8-teamer parlay tickey by one game? Bet real cash, be a serious sports bettor if you have the balls and required skills of course. Some people can't success in gambling but they don't quit. Just do it only if you're making profit over long haul. If you're not making any money, quit it. Betting for fun is stupid, there's more funny/entertaning things in life then gambling.

If you still want to bet, please masterize money management. I left a fortune in table in my early years because it took long time for me to develop this skill. Going all-in, Chasing..Don't do it. Stick with a strict, boring money management plan. Don't try to get rich in one night. Remember, Rome wasn't build in a day. Patience is the key. Good luck!

^ By the tone of your post you sound like you are in that 1-2% bracket. Maybe so but few people can take the pressure of doing what you advise long term. Most if not all the advantages are with the house. Play long enough and the House will win against most.

as everyone said you will have losing streaks and you will lose in the beginning. I remember losing 20 straight bets once in my early years, but as long as you have proper bankroll management you will be fine in the long term. I suggest you don't bet more than 2% if your roll. If you think you need to bet 10% of your roll per bet because you have a small bankroll don't bet because you will almost certainly lose your entire BR eventually.

Keep track of all your plays, whether its a notebook, spreadsheet, etc. Reviewing these can prove helpful to identify if you are favoring certain teams/players rather then making smart decisions with no emotions involved.

I been gambling since 2009, my personal rules on sports gambling:

    1. Money management. Bet less than 5% of your total current bankroll per bet. Be discipline.
    2. Be a strategic gambler by picking your spots and wait for the right opportunity. Never be a compulsive gambler by betting because it's your favorite team or for the action.
    3. Stay emotionless all the time. Bet like a robot. There's no place for emotions in this profession. Be unbiased.
    4. Do your research by watching game footage, use trends and statistics on division rivals only.
    5. Never bet on heavily juiced/vig lines. Like a line at -1000 for example.
    6. Never bet on heavily valued lines. Like a terrible team at 100 to 1 odds to win championship.
    7. Parlays should be no longer than 2 teams, the bigger the parlay is, the bigger the House Edge. Research and Secure your first pick before moving on to your second pick.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89HtJmQgjww
    8. Teasers should never pass through the zero.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP3P9OJvukQ
    9. Teams with home field/court advantage tend to win games. Sportsbooks know this and favorites the home team.
    "Whoever is first in the field and awaits the coming of the enemy, will be fresh for the fight;
whoever is second in the field and has to hasten to battle will arrive exhausted." -Sun Tzu, the Art of War
    10. Never bet on double digit road favorites. You will lose in the long run.
    11. Never bet on preseason games on any sport. Predicting a 2nd string and 3rd string team is stupid because of the lack of game footage on mostly unknown players.
    12. If you are extremely compulsive, arrogant, drunk and biased. The best advice is to "Don't Gamble".
    13. Learn from your mistakes. Most gamblers don't learn from their mistakes. That's why I made these gambling rules.

I like this reference but I think it has very little to do with the modern home field/court advantage in sports

You know a lot less about sports than you think you know. Once you master this and look for ways to improve your knowledge of the sports betting market - you will see results.
