Why most punters lose their bankrolls

They play games that are on national TV and are hyped by media.

You don't need to bet a toss up game (Colts/Jets) just because is on TV.

Bet a game where no one cares about (Hawks/Pacers). Find an angle like Pacers on back to back games and haven't beaten the Hawks since 2006.

You can have money on a game you don't watch and make profit instead of having money on a game you watch and lose it.

Great point. It took me time but eventually figured it out. Too many a time I was swayed into a betting a game because of all the pre game hype. Or it being a big game. Nationally televised etc. Now I don't bet for action. I bet on angles. I'm in this to make money.

You can still win playing the big public games, but the lines are generally sharper.

I gamble for entertainment. So I watch my money all the time. Win or loss I still had fun watching.

A lot of people get into betting the games they are watching to begin with. I know people who only can watch events they have wagers on.

Some games I bet just to watch

Some games I bet to make money on an angle

Some games I watch the first half just to get a feel for the game and then bet the second half

Some games I just bet to tail someone and see how they do

But I never bet beyond my roll and never bet on credit.

    Exactly.

    Each game counts the same.

The more high-profile and populated the game, the sharper the line tends to be.

You can still have fun with hyped up televised games, just don't bet your house on those games

With all due respect, what happened yesterday isn't necessarily going to happen today or tomorrow.

This "angle" on its own is no different than seeing black come up six times in a row while playing roulette and then admonishing others for playing craps instead of playing black again on this roulette game.

It really comes down to: do you get more excited about seeing your account balance grow, or would you rather have the rush of watching a game on TV that you have money on?

I think most bettors, bet on too many games, and also have a lousy money management. They bet any amount they happen to "think" it's right, and like it has been said above, they usually bet in hyped games with no value it all

Weather the game is televised or not is irrelevant. You bet games when you have an edge. If no edge exists then you should not bet. If games that are televised are prone to have sharper lines is another question. It may be the case but I can find a few examples that would provide contradictions to this theory (Superbowl would be the glaring example but the Seattle game last night would qualify as well).

In any event most punters lose their bankroll because:
    A) They do not have an edge
    B) They have an edge but not enough of one to overcome the juice.
    C) They have an edge but go broke due to their bet sizing.

A and B are difficult to rectify while C is easy to unless inherent degeneracy prevents proper mental functioning.

Yes if you have an edge on a televised hyped game bet on it. I think the only nationally televised game I can remember of having an edge was the Superbowl with Patriots/Giants where the line for Giants was +14 and the final game of Celtics/Lakers a few years back where the Celtics were playing at home after losing the last one in LA to celebrate winning at home.

Now this is the sharpest post in this thread! Hell yeah I watch the games I bet on! That's part of the excitement of sports betting! Plus like gauch said, you really can get a feel for the how a team will perform in the second half!
