He seems like a smart guy, who gives a shit. Him saying that he wants to stay just shows how much more mature he is than most college students. He wants to get his degree and its not an easy degree to get. If football should fail he will still have a nice degree to sit back on. And whoever said the people who dont understand are the people that never went to college are right. I had the time of my life for my college years. He is the man at Stanford and next year they will be competing for a National Champ.

Beat me to it. Good post. Luck can do a Lloyds of London insurance deal which will protect his fortune...even if he gets hurt permanently.

likely doesn't want to play for carolina and knows nfl money is going to be there for him no matter what. he thinks stanford has title potential next season and would like to give it a go. best of luck to him.

Him and his whole family are really wealthy

He's just making sure he has his degree incase something goes wrong (injury)/enjoying college while knowing that the NFL and the #1st pick will all be there for him next year

if finance is not a concern, you would absolutely want to be a large guppy in a small pond and stay in college

he is on pace to finish his degree next spring and said that was important to him. smart move on his part, never hurts to have that college degree after his career is over with.

also, i'm sure that he'll get a significant ($10 million) insurance policy in case of a career-ending injury over the next 12 months. Lloyd's of London or someone like that will insure him for that for a couple hundred grand, and his family won't have any trouble fronting that. NFL's labor unrest probably a factor too.

Good for Andrew. With his degree he will have something to fall back on later in life. Perhaps he doesn't envision himself sitting in a booth talking about football 20 years from now, if he makes it enough in the league to be able to land a commentating gig.

I think the CBA probably did become a factor for him, there is a great chance there is no NFL next year. A key group of owners are not willing to budge in the talks till they get what they want. So if there is no NFL next year the kid is still playing football and not having to sit out for a year.

He's getting his degree in architectural design. Stanford student athletes are very bright and he will graduate next spring 2012. He'll get an insurance policy in case he's injured and will get his big payday in 2012.

I think he's doing it the right way. Like his dad said the NFL isn't going anywhere and maybe when he comes out next year San Francisco or Oakland or one of the West Coast teams might be in position to draft him.

How about this scenario: Minnesota drafts him in 20-12 and they move the franchise to LA shortly after. Talk about a win-win-win.

Luck's decision is plain stupid. It's not like he's Tim Tebow who was told he wouldn't be a high pick or even much of an NFL qb. He would be the top pick if he came out. I hope he fukks up his arm or something next year.

Considering what half the degenerates on this forum would do for $1MM I have to say this is a bad decision by Luck to pass up on upwards of $50MM in guarantied money. Once the rookie scale is in place he may not hit double digits in guarantied money beginning in 2012.

Take the money...noone gives a shit about your archetuel design degree, noone has any money to build anyway you dumbass.

His father says "the NFL isn't going anywhere"....is Stanford going somewhere? Can't he get his degree when he is 30, 40, 50 or in the offseason?

Hey, I got this winning Mega Millions lotto ticket but I'm not going to collect yet....let me leave the ticket in my car for a year and if it's still there next January I'll cash it in.
