CHICAGO - More than 45 million Americans, or 20 percent of U.S. adults, had some form of mental illness last year, and 11 million had a serious illness, U.S. government researchers reported on Thursday.
Young adults aged 18 to 25 had the highest level of mental illness at 30 percent, while those aged 50 and older had the lowest, with 13.7 percent, said the report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or SAMHSA.
The rate, slightly higher than last year's 19.5 percent figure, reflected increasing depression, especially among the unemployed, SAMHSA, part of the National Institutes of Health, said.
"Too many Americans are not getting the help they need and opportunities to prevent and intervene early are being missed," Pamela Hyde, SAMHSA's administrator, said in a statement.
"The consequences for individuals, families and communities can be devastating. If left untreated mental illnesses can result in disability, substance abuse, suicides, lost productivity, and family discord."
The 2009 mental health survey hints at the impact of record unemployment rates, which last year hit a 25-year high as struggling employers slashed jobs to cope with a weak economy.
For many, lost employment meant loss of health insurance, leaving many of the nation's mentally ill unable to get treatment.
According to the survey, 6.1 million adults last year had a mental health need that went untreated, and 42.5 percent said it was because they could not afford it.
It found 14.8 million Americans had major depression last year, and 10 percent of the jobless did, compared with 7.5 of retired people or those not in the job force, 7.3 percent who worked part time and 5.4 percent who worked full time.
Only 64 percent of adults aged 18 or older with major depression were treated last year, compared with 71 percent a year ago.
Being jobless also increased the risk of suicide.

Mental illness? Meh.
That definition seems to change with every passing decade. Psychiatric medicine at one time consisted of drilling holes into people's brains, sticking needles into people's tear ducts in order to sever some nerves, electric shocks, etc. Now it consists of pumping us full of medication that has no tested history of side effects. It's all a guessing game.
speaking of mental illness. I just wanted to add that homosexuality is a mental illness. I made a thread about it but now I can't find it.

I actually wrote all that in about 20 minutes. No, i did not proofread it. All the thoughts just came out of my head because that is what i thought about fishhead and i did not read it before i clicked post. I actually read it the first time after i saw many people replied and nominated my post so then i know it must have been clear and consise the point i was trying to make.
Look, i know fishhead is a smart guy but his posts are annoying. Like someone else says, Fishhead will tell you about what he does but then when you ask him a question, he never give you a clear and honest response.

That poster was Doug i believe and i know he was a reputable poster. How i know this? Because you said he is ELIGIBLE FOR REBATES AND BETTING ON CREDIT. He probably wants to bet $500 minimum on a CBB Total and was upset he couldn't bet it at -105 at 5dimes yet you COUNTEROFFER by asking him to bet on FISHHEADWAGERING where he is risking points. Hell, you probably reject his offer anyways if it was for more than 500 betpoints which is worth about $25. Whats the point?

No thanks. I am not much into calling out a poster. Everyone here is different and does different things. When you start getting into personal little battles it takes away what we are trying to accomplish here. Or at least what I am. I am looking for interesting fun chats on sports and gambling related topics. I am looking for insightful posts and opinions that will help us all make $$$.
People, including fishhead, forget we are all on the same team here. Trying to beat the bookies and have a good time. If you concentrate too much on the negatives, guess what will happen? Just my .02

Fishhead, can you list 1-2 errors i did in my post about you? Yes i'm pretty sure i had to make a few mistakes but overall i think it describes you perfectly
Personally, I'm a fan of Fishhead. He offers great advice for beginners. For example, he always tells us to take advantage of exchanges like Matchbook and also using multiple books to scalp and bonus hunt.
FH has taught me more about gaming than anyone in forum history.
