#741Mitt's not Mexican. His Grandparents left the country because they were polygamous (Ol'Grand Dad had a few wives over the legal limit of one.) Mitt's father was born in Mexico but since his father never gave up his US citizenship he too was a US citizen. Mitt was born and raised in Michigan. There's no question has to whether or not he is a US citizen and not Mexican.
As to his taxes... who know? The longer he plays the "I'll release them later game" the more it's going to make people think he's hiding something. He also looks like a kid with cookies crumbs on his chin being asked "who ate the cookies?" whenever he's asked about them. That's not helping him either.Comment -

#745Because Ron Paul is by far the most conservative candidate running. The current GOP is a far cry from the traditional conservatism of Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater.
It's been hijacked by a bunch of neocon loons. Fanatics that want war, increase the size of government, increase taxes, destroy the Constitution, and spend us into oblivion.
It's not a conservative party anymore. It's been radicalized. That is why there is such a struggle within the GOP now. Real conservatives want their party back and the neocons are not letting go.

Of course, if you equate neocons with liberals you simply don't understand American politics. Very simple you don't understand, not unlike the people on this forum that believe socialism and communism are the same. Uneducated and willing to stay that way. Most are R, by the way.Comment -

#749George Bush implemented projects to help fund people who needed help coming up with a down payment for a house. That, along with many other things Bush did, is a socialist plan.
If you can't afford a downpayment and can't put some equity in your house to start with you shouldn't be owning a house. We all see how that turned out.
I think if you really study that situation, along with many things Bush did, you'll find it's an odd mix of capitalism, commercialism and a small dash of socialism thrown in. Removing restrictions and regulations on lending institutions making it easier to make loans to less then qualified borrowers is basically free market capitalism. Backing up many those loans with semi-governmental institutions such as Freddy and Fannie borders on socialism (but not really since Freddie and Frannie were set up as for profit companies and their stock can be traded.) Encouraging everyone to engage in an "ownership society" and repeatedly giving speeches that tout an accomplishment that "home ownership is at an all time high" is pushing a commercialism based society.
But if you look back I think you'll find most of what Bush Jr. did in regards to home ownership was expand on programs and policies Clinton either put in place or continued.Last edited by Tully Mars 63; 01-21-12, 01:42 PM.Comment -

#750Looks like Paul's going to place a distant 4th with about 10% of the votes in S.C. It's early and those numbers are based on exit polls but it's kind of shocking that he didn't (or at least right now it's looking like he won't) hold onto that 18-20% core base of voters. If Paul, which exit polls are showing at 10%, can't hold onto his base he's toast. He needs his base and he needs to pick up independents and undecided. If the exit polls predictions hold true he didn't do that in SC tonight.
It's also shocking that Mitt lost so much ground so quickly. Well kind of shocking. The GOP elite have been kind of shoving Mitt down the throats of the GOP primary voters. Those voters have almost weekly found another candidate to fall in love with. Everyone from Bachmann to Perry to Cain and Santorium has been their candidate "D' Jour." Each of these have fallen out of favor due to either new info or poor showing in debate ability. In short each one has shown they have a weakness they probably can not over come and as such would likely lose to Obama in November. For some reason SC voters tonight got behind Newt and kicked Mitt to the curb. In short the GOP is failing to rally behind any one candidate.
I think the big winner tonight in SC is Obama.Comment -

As for the Clinton-Dubya-Obama lineage of corruption, I agree and it's something that needs to be investigated. I've been doing my own homework and I think it goes all the way back to Nixon, if you can believe that! politically corrupt crony corporatism and crony corporatism rooted in imperial militarism
Mitt Romney is a corporate raider who destroyed companies and ruined thousands of lives in the process in the name of profit. On top of being a lying, flip-flopping socialist.
Lastly I agree it goes back beyond Clinton, GW Bush and Obama. But I don't think it stops at Nixon who I honestly blame for the current fukked up health care system we're currently suffering through. But that's another story... just Google "Nixon Keizer" and you'll get some reading material on that subject. I think it goes back to at least Johnson and Kennedy. Basically we've been on a downward trajectory since Ike in my opinion. A trajectory that's not likely to change easily or quickly. But that's what the average US voter wants. Actually that's what the average US citizen wants. They what it simple and they want it right now. Fixing this mess isn't going to be simply and it isn't going to happen right now.Comment -

#761Filmmaker Oliver Stone would vote for Ron Paul over President Obama
By Jonathan Easley - 01/24/12 09:52 AM ET
Filmmaker Oliver Stone, known for his liberal political views, said he would vote for GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul over President Obama should Paul win the Republican nomination.
In an interview with Rock Cellar magazine, Stone was asked if an economic collapse would lead to the fall of the American “empire.”
“I think it’s a given,” Stone said. “There’s no way that we can continue this spending spree. In fact, I think in many ways the most interesting candidate — I’d even vote for him if he was running against Obama — is Ron Paul. Because he’s the only one of anybody who’s saying anything intelligent about the future of the world.”
Stone was a vocal supporter of the president in 2008, and wrote an editorial in the Guardian saying that Obama could be the “heir to John F. Kennedy.”
According to Federal Election Commission records, in 2008 Stone donated $2,300 directly to the Obama campaign and another $2,300 to the Obama Victory Fund, which raises money for Obama’s re-election as well as for the Democratic National Committee.
Stone also has a long and controversial history of political filmmaking and political stances.
He’s directed movies about Presidents George W. Bush, Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy, as well as films about 9/11 and Vietnam War veteran and activist Ron Kovic.
Stone is also known for embracing some of far-left’s most notorious figures, such as Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Cuban leader Fidel Castro.Comment -

#762Normally I'm not a fan of people changing my words for me but I agree in that capitalism and socialism don't really exist anywhere in the US their pure forms. It's always a mixed bag. And as time goes on we're getting closer and closer to some northern version of a corrupt banana republic. As you put it it's-
Sadly many have no idea when it comes to politics and often history. Here's a quote I cut and pasted from earlier in this thread. I didn't even look at who wrote it and I'm not attacking them. I can find many other posts that would make the same point. But look at what this person wrote-
So in the first sentence Mitt's a harmful capitalist. I mean what is capitalism if not buying things and making a profit by selling those things? That's capitalism in it's purest form. And in the second sentence he's a lying, flip-flopping socialists. It's really hard to be both a capitalists and socialist.
Great response! I especially loved that quote that you dug up, slurrying Romney as both a socialist and a capitalist.
But that sentence really sums up the current state of politics in the U.S. It's an incoherent mush of slurs that's getting tougher and tougher to decipher. That's how they want it, the powers that be. They don't want us concerned (or well-versed) about the actual issues because then we might actually have a voice.
I bolded a sentence of yours above as well, which makes me think. We do seem to live in a faster and faster paced world. I guess technology speeds up and we want speed in all ways at all times concerning all aspects of our lives. Change is as fast as we will it to be, because in this case, we are the government and all we have to do is decide that we want justice rather than cheeseburgers, beers and a football game.Comment -

#763Well as I stated I'm not trying to slam anyone, didn't even look at who wrote that. But I think it's true. How many times have you heard people call Bush Jr. or Obama a "Nazi, commie SOB?" Yeah, that's like saying that "dictator just can get enough democracy." Divide and concur seems to be the game plan by the power players on both sides. You'd think after 20, 30... maybe 40 years of this people would catch on.
But no it's not advantages for the people in power to have the citizens at large understand whats happening or probably more important how it's happening. For years the middle class has been in decline in the US. Why exactly is that? I have some ideas why but the truth is I don't freaking know. I am convinced both DEM and GOP are not interested in changing it or providing the masses with enough info to understand it. Each side throws mud and crap at the other. It goes back and forth each side taking control by a few seats or a few electoral votes for a few years. After which they declare a "mandate." A 2,3 or even 5% wn is not a mandate in my opinion. Each side hold that power for a few years, sometimes a few short months, then the voters react to the lack of progress and they vote in the other side. Which is why I think the average US citizens wants it right now and wants it to take little effort. Just vote for the person or party who convinces you you'll get more for less. Lather, Rinse and Repeat. The one constant is little to nothing changes.
I hate to say it but to a large degree I blame the average US citizen. They're lazy when it comes to politics. Many turn on the channel they agree with the most and nod in agreement while being fed a steady stream of BS. "Yes that Bush is a Nazi, anti-American draft dodging POS!" "Absolutely! Obama wasn't even born here! And he's a Muslim set on destroying the American way of life!" Bush wasn't/isn't a Nazi and Obama was born in Hawaii. He's a Christian not a Muslim. Divide and concur... divide and concur. It's working well... for them. The rest of slobs are stuck with the tab for the most part.
Ike said, basically, "beware the industrial military complex." And I've heard Paul repeat that sentiment in several speeches. I think we should have listened closer to Ike on this subject and it's one of the things I agree with Paul on. If we had maybe we wouldn't have spent the last decade blowing up shyte in the Middle East one week/month and rebuilding what we just blew up the next. Maybe instead of providing Iraqis health care (still can't believe US tax payers were (still are?) paying for another countries health care system while we don't really even have one here) and rebuilding their schools, hospitals and roads. Maybe we could have been rebuilding our own communities?
At this rate we'll all be serfs in a decade or two... maybe sooner.Comment -

#765Newt's got ton of baggage and many GOP party leaders are shaking in their boots that he might get the nomination. A few are saying so publicly, many more are saying it privately. I saw an interview with one congressman (from Jersey?) where he said as far as he knew very few folks, including himself, who worked with Newt in the 90's wanted him as the nominee. He stated Newt is an ego maniac and prone to temper tantrums (I'd add massive hypocrite to that.) If his ex-co workers don't want him and about 2/3 of GOP voters don't want him... Well then Obama's got to be extremely happy with Newt's current surge.
One things for certain the GOP candidates in the race simply are not that well liked. Each for their own reasons. But none are consistently getting the support of more the about 1/3 of the GOP primary voters.
So yet again we get to watch as the GOP frantically searches for another candidate. They've put a lot work into convincing the party rank and file to get behind Mitt. That really hasn't gone as planned in my opinion. Now there's a push recruit Mitch Daniels to run. It's pretty darn late to be getting into the race.
I said it before and I'll say it again the big winner in the GOP primaries thus far has been Obama.Comment -

#767I don't get it. I travel a lot, about 1/4 million air miles last year. I've never had that big of problem with the TSA. I almost always get called out for the pat down, I have a pin in my leg. TSA has always been respectful with me. I have seen them be less then kind to other flyers but usually that's been preceded by the other flyer failing the "attitude test." I'm not saying that's right but TSA agents are people and if you piss them off they're likely going to be pissed off at you. I witnesses one lady in Miami not long ago refuse to take off her shoes because 1. "don't you know who I am!?!" and 2. "these shoes are Italian!" I thought to myself "mine are Eddie Bauer, maybe I should let TSA know." TSA does do a full somewhat invasive pat down. But I prefer that over possibly allowing some nut job blow up mine or anyone else plane.
The more time passes after 9-11 the less people care about this I guess. My guess is the issue is being closely watched by whack jobs around the world.Comment -

Unfortunately, the media controls everything and we all know who controls the mass media.. just look who owns the associated press -- same people connected to the federal reserve
Ron Paul will NEVER get a fair shake in the all important media, they're terrified of him because they know he's real and speaks the truth -- and we know the media is what the sheep voters go by to cast their vote.Comment
