You guys comparing stats are ridiculous. Do you not think that playing in the AL East with A-Rod, Cano, Jeter, Gardner, Swisher etc protecting you considerably affects your stats? Put Teixeira at Petco, have him play in a pitchers division, and surround him with Kahlil Green, Russel Branyan, and Mike Cameron and see what his stats look like.
Adrian Gonzalez a better player than Mark Teixeira

#39Right now, moving foward, Gonzo, of course, but Tex in his prime versus Gonzo in his prim, it's Tex. (not by much, but still Tex)Comment -

In the end, both are going to have similar careers, which is pretty much my argument, Tex gets a slight nod on defense, therefore I think he's a slightly better overall player.
This is like the Mantle, Mays argument.Comment -

#45See what Gonzo does this year in that BOS lineup and get back to me. In general terms I can understand the eye roll but this is a clearly significant factor in this specific instance.Comment -

#47I agree here that career comparisons are pretty irrelevant since Petco is the worst hitters park in MLB and the Fathers lineup has always been awful.
Also boys, please...PLEASE don't ever use gold glove to compare anything. Jeter winning GG's and Palmeiro winning one the year he played like 25 games at first tell you they're meaningless. Gold gloves are a JOKE.Comment -

#48When you look at the stats...in many of the categories Gonzalez isn't even close.
HR's Tex 284 to Gonzo 176 (1 year advantage for Tex)
RBI Tex 927 to Gonzo 556
2B Tex 310 to Gonzo 199
Hits Tex 1353 to Gonzo 951
Gonzo is a solid player....but in all categories he's a step down from Tex. Better on both sides? That's fan blindness...not reality
Look at the 162 game averages for the players
286/369/511 (138 park adjusted OPS+) 172H 32HR 15.8 RBI%
285/377/526 (134 park adjusted OPS+) 175H 37HR 17.1 RBI%Comment -

OK, lets.
One of the premier power hitters of this generation.
On another level then the two principles in this conversation when it comes to power numbers.
Hits 10-15 points lower for average, makes most of it back in walks.
Does not compare to the two of them in defense, but for a big guy plays better defense then given credit for.Comment -

#51His point that Gonzo lags in nearly every category holds true though. "Not even close" might be a little strong... but in aggregate it rings true.Comment -
