    Brock Landers Music thread

So i was inspired by SBR newcomer LVBOUND's thread about music...and decided i needed one of my own.

lets start with how i came to love the music i do today..

My dad had a RECORD collection, and in that collection there were 2 albums that stood out. This was 1980 or so when i "tuned in"

    1)Jimi Hendrix "Are You Experienced?"

Used to play the album and loved purple haze, Foxy Lady and The Wind Cries Mary more than i can explain..

2)he had a 45 of Van Halen's "You really got me" with a B side of "Atomic Punk"

    I've been HOOKED ever since

3)He also had a 45 of the Eagles "One of the these nights", which i specifically remember being one i listened to over and over again

Next topic will be my 1st music purchases...

from there i can specifically remember the 1st 3 Cassette tapes i purchased..

    1983

1)Quiet Riot "Mental Health" featuring "*** on feel the Noize"

    And "Bang Your Head"

    2)Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell"

    and "White Wedding"

    3)Van Halen's "1984"

    "Jump"

    "Panama"

    More to come...

i picked up much along the way...but it was SPECIFICALLY in 1988, seeing "The Dead Pool" featuring an unknown band named GUNS N' ROSES that changed my world for good!

This one group and songs from the best debut album ever changed me in ways that would have otherwise been impossible!

I diverged in many different directions at this point, i picked up a LOVE for U2 with their best album "The Joshua Tree"

"Where the Streets have no Name"

"I still haven't found what i'm looking for"

Followed closely behind by "Rattle and Hum"

And my very favorite U2 song "HeartLand"...which also led me to visit Graceland shortly afterward

    Moving onto 1989..

I was introduced to a lot of BEATLES music in that period as well, as their stuff all came out on CD starting with the 20th anniversary of Sgt Pepper..

Then their best single song..to me anyway

    "A Day in the Life"

Got into the white album BIG time..

    "While my Guitar Gently Weeps"

    "Yer Blues"

From Zeppelin i moved to the stones...i've now got every album they ever made "original studio albums" in my Ipod catalog.

Remind you, i discovered all this from like 1987-1990.

Here are just a few faves...

"Sympathy for the Devil" probably the single best rock song ever written

    "Gimme Shelter"

"Wild Horses" *MY PERSONAL FAVORITE SONG OF THEIRS*

    "Lovin Cup"

I could go on and on...but you get the idea

Great thread Brock. About Sympathy for the Devil... I agree... excellent song... my favorite Stones song for sure. They use a "version" of it in the most underrated movie of all time... The Jericho Mile. If you haven't seen this movie YOU MUST. Here's the final scene of the movie with Sympathy playing... it fits perfectly!
