Unemployment in Vegas is around 14.1%...doesn't matter if you've got dealing experience because the only place you'd be lucky to possibly deal at would be a crap hole local joint and they're not hiring either.

Now if you want to panhandle or hand out porn pamphlets then by all means move on out.

Something tells me it isn't nearly as bad as people are claiming

If someone is skilled and puts forth an effort they should be able to find employment

I'm pretty versatile I'm not restricting myself to only casino/sportsbook line of work

A little off topic, but similar....

Is it easy to get a job in an indian casino as a Hold 'Em dealer or a blackjack dealer?

If they are hiring, you can do the job adequately, can pass a drug test and background check, and are personable then sure why not?

I thought if you dealt cards, blackjack dealer, you couldn't play on the strip?
I thought that's what one of the dealers told me.

That doesn't make sense, I think you can't play cards in your own casino

This is standard and how it is at basically all casinos I have set foot in

Do the words "All men were not really created equal, its just something they said to you because they felt bad for your sorry ass" mean anything to you?

If you think I am going to listen to you because you are broke and can't find a job to save your family, think again

Go be pessimistic somewhere else, I don't want to hear your nonsense

Even if I don't find a job I could always just martingale straight bets on the Giants and pray they don't suffer a long losing streak for the rest of the year

Funny thing is I am only half kidding as with that rotation it would probably work

He will check into this thread any minute now. Any thread w/ "Vegas" in the title sets off his Spidy sense. Guy is an absolute authority on Vegas (and everything else for that matter).

I too am thinking about moving to vegas. Looking around the summerlin the lakes area. It is just too much of a hassle to bet anymore with online books. Id rather just be able to get in my car drive 15 mins down to the strip and sit in one of those great chairs at the bellagio book. get hammered. Watch my play. Cash. And go home.

Been in Vegas off and on betting sports for a living for almost two years now and havent bet over 100 sports bets in casino the whole time I have been there. Offshore is where it is at believe me. Not sure how serious you are talking betting wise but almost everyone doing this at a serious level bets offshore first, even all the people in Vegas.

Just in Vegas in April and everyone was saying how hard it is to find a job. Some people are happy to just find a part time job. Taxi drivers say the weekends now are not as busy as the weekdays 5 years ago

I hear ya. I have been betting online for probably close to 12- 14 years. With the UIGEA law going into effect im back to having to ** my book a deposit. Its just a hassle. Why wouldnt it just be easier for you living in vegas to go down to the book and place bet. Why still do online?

Since the economy dropped about five years ago vegas has been hurting. Its very hard to find a job let alone one that will pay you a good amount of money, especially compared to five years ago. I know a few people who had really good jobs and just got laid off for no reason other than they just couldnt afford to keep them on the clock and were down sizing their whole company whether it be a Car Lot, Restaurant, even Casino's because there is not as many people coming and spending as much money as they used to. If you have any skills or a trade get on the computer and see whats available. If you have any money saved up what so ever buy a house they are really cheap, many lease or rent to own deals right now with brand new houses, I know of a few areas where they started building and had to stop because people stopped buying the houses, These brand new homes were selling at $265,000 and now are only $105,000. 3bd 3bath. Are you from Hawaii You know they call Vegas the ninth island refering to Hawaii because there are so many people from hawaii living out there. Here is a good strategy polish up on your poker skills, and when the weekends come go down to the strip and clean up on people who are just happy to be there gambling. Good Luck

My job is recession proof. Very easy to transfer. Not worried about the job thing. Whenever I am out there on vaca I never want to come home. Was out there for game 2 and game 3 of nba finals. Had a blast. I love it there. Will that sour by living there. Who knows. But i want to find out.

brx if you're going to the Summerlin area you better bring some coin with you...high end area. I agree that the offshore is the way to go. Most of my friends swing by the local Leroy's to get some action and rarely head down to the strip to lay a bet. The strip is for the tourists, the locals go elsewhere.

I'm not looking to buy at first. Plan on renting. Saw some apartments that looked pretty nice in the 1000 dollar a month range. Where do the locals go to lay a bet. Leroy's?

Depends on where they live or are heading out to. There are several local casino's/books, and Leroy's is the bailout when they just want to throw something on a game. You'll find some guys who will swing by the strip, but most locals stay out of there. Some of the nicer apartment places will cost a tad more.

just closed on a 2200sf house in henderson last week and will spend football season there.

the houses are insanely cheap (but....they will also likely stay cheap for another 2 years).

A little about Vegas.. I have lived here since '97 and things have changed...About betting on a game you can do that in the comfort of home..WE HAVE TWO OR 3 DIFFERENT CASINO'S WHERE YOU CAN BET ON LINE OR CALL IN YOUR BETS IF SO DESIRED..sorry about the caps...Housing is at a all time low..a friend bought a 460,000 house in way way NW Vegas in '05 today it's valued at 190,000..Sad but true, he will probably be leaving it behind as well as his 200,000 CASH down payment..

Jobs..right now approximately 150,000 casino workers have been laid off or cut hours to a minimum..where casino's don't have to pay benefits...

If one is thinking of moving to VEGAS...Fill out job applications on line before you get here that way you may have a leg up on your competition..Station Casino's.com Boydgaming.com get the picture..

I love it here, 9 months of absolutely beatiful weather and 3 month's hotter than hell but, I can deal w/it...

Last but not least, I'm older 53 and I don't really need alot from life, a good golf course, a place to make bets, a home to call my own, transportation, and my wife and 3 year old daughter...and lots of good places to eat..fairly reasonable..Steak and eggs hashbrowns and toast 3.99 and cheesebuger fries and a glass of tea 3.99...simple...but like I said I'm older so those are the good things in life to me...Thanks for your time and have a safe trip to Vegas...
