Well Chinese are the best in reading because they can read characters. This is what we teach our toddlers here in the US in the beginning. We teach them with pictures. But at some point we teach them the alphabet so they can create words on their own instead of memorizing pictures. Much harder to do.

Funny, I just spoke with a friend today who just got back from Kowloon, an island off of Hong Kong. He said the mainland Chinese were very uneducated, thuggish, without manners while the Chinese from Hong Kong were much better educated and much more civil. It's an insult to refer to people from Hong Kong as being from China.

As a matter of fact, the primary dialect spoken in Hong Kong is Cantonese while they speak Mandarin on the mainland. Yet, due to the influx of Chinese trying to get out of the mainland and into Hong Kong (like Mexico to the US) there is much more Mandarin now spoken. Therefore, I would bet dollars to donuts those test scores were skewed severely by the Communist Red China as they, like all Communist countries, lie in order to put their best face in front of the world.

i remember speaking to a number of people born in china that attend my university... this for the most part is true..... they went on to say most if not all wealth is created in hong kong (finical industry etc) and the people that emigrate to canada and the states are from there.... china is a great divide, super rich and educated and at the same time poor as shit and uneducated.
