I hit with rory in open, I'm going with mcdowell and sergio in British. I like their odds pretty good. I believe right now they are both 32-1 at 5 dimes.

Rory was one bad round away from winning both majors this year.

He is going off at 7-1. I think that is a pretty good price considering how good he has been in the majors this year.

Mickelson is going off at 40-1. I would take a flyer on that one.

Jason Day has come up 2nd in the last 2 majors. Liking +850 for a top 5.

You are correct. Would have expected Rory to be much lower than +828. I'm guessing he closes lower than +700.

Brit Open = long history of longshots and oddball winners. If you want to hit a massive underdog, not a bad tourney to take a flyer. Now who is it?

    I'm taking him as well.

FWIW, someone put $100k on Rory at $10 early yesterday morning at Sportingbet. After that they dropped him to $6.

I think mental stamina is what stops 99% of players from winning majors.

I'm not betting against Rory. But a 21yo who was also on the verge of taking the biggest choker tag in history off Greg Norman just 1 win ago at +700 to win it, against a 24yo who has shown he has the mental stamina to compete in the majors, plus a swag of other top 10s this year at +850 for a Top 5 is an easy choice for me.

I've been so impressed by how relaxed and confident Day has looked in interviews this week. Which is really what swung me.

I honestly can't see anyone else more likely to land a solid top 5. Others might be more capable on their 'day', but I trust Day to do it four times out of four more than anyone else this week.

I say take Rory or maybe if there is a "field " option. I could see Rory reeling off a string of wins like Tiger used to. After all this sport needs a super star. He is probably golfing with a lot of confidence right now.

I'll go with Westwood or Garcia

I was readiong on PGAtour.com how Rory don't like playing in the wind and his game isn't suited for British open style golf even his agent said he didn't have high hopes for Rory this week

I jumped on Day to finish in the top 6 at +600

Now I want to do a parlay for fun on people to make the cut. I haven't been paying a lot of attention to golf outside of the majors this year so can someone tell me why Mickelson's paying -275? I thought he'd be shorter than that.

ROSS FISHER. Has two top-10 finishes in his last five starts on the European Tour, and he tends to hang around in this event, finishing inside the top 40 in each of the last three years. That includes a T13 two years ago.

MATTEO MANNESERO. The Italian teenager already has two wins across the pond. He also tied for 13th at the British Open two years ago and has all the tools to be a factor in this tournament for a long time to come

DAVIS LOVE III. Love has finished 16th or higher in four of his last six starts on TOUR, so he's hot right now. He hasn't always fared well at the British Open, but he placed T4 in 2003, the last time the Open was held at Royal St. George's.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA. Calcavecchia is looking to pull a Tom Watson this week. Like Watson, the 51-year-old hasn't lost much with age. He won his first and only major at the British Open in 1989 and has made the cut the last two years.

TOM WATSON. Sentimental pick? Sure, 2009 is still fresh in my mind. But the 61-year-old's recent form makes this more than a wild sleeper; he won the Senior PGA six weeks ago over a field mostly younger than him. Excels in the wind.

NICOLAS COLSAERTS. Took third place at the rain-shortened Scottish Open. The Belgian, who plays on the European Tour, was also 11th at the French Open the week before, and earlier this season won the Volvo China Open.
BRIAN DAVIS. When in doubt, pick an Englishman this week. Davis has the experience to handle the wind at Royal St. George's. If Ben Curtis can do it, so can this guy, except it would be far less shocking.

THOMAS AIKEN. In my desk, there is a note that reads Thomas Aiken, British Open sleeper pick. Who am I to argue with whatever I was thinking months ago when I wrote this note to myself? Aiken won his first European Tour event at this year's Spanish Open.

Westwood +985 (a European grinder. One time, Westwood will win a major)
Harrington +4200 ( can't count out a winner and competitor like Padraig)
Mickelson +4800 (2nd best player in the world -Best player in the world is having problems outside of golf)
Daly +100000 (let's not forget, Daly has won and play's well here)
