VietNamNet – Chau Le Phuoc Vinh, Le Van Truong and Tran Hai Lam have been prosecuted for involvement in match fixing at 23rd SEA Games.
Thus far, seven U-23 players have been prosecuted in the 23rd SEA Games match-fixing scandal; however, unlike Van Quyen, Quoc Vuong, Bat Hieu and Quoc Anh, the latest three players are out on bail, as investigators have deemed that their acts are less serious. They were also sincere in their declarations to police, and did not receive payment from betting ring leaders.
According to investigators, on November 24, 2005, five U-23 players – Van Quyen, Quoc Vuong, Van Truong, Hai Lam and Bat Hieu, met in the hotel where the Vietnamese players stayed during the 23rd SEA Games in the Philippines. They agreed that if Vietnam defeated Myanmar by one goal they would receive two bonuses, one from Vietnam Football Federation and the other from a betting ring. Quoc Vuong told Van Truong to entice Tai Em, Quoc Anh, Phuoc Vinh and Tan Tai but Tai Em and Tan Tai did not agree.
Returning from the Philippines, on December 5, Van Quyen, Quoc Vuong, and Bat Hieu stayed in HCM City before going to Hanoi. During their time in HCM City, Quoc Vuong paid VND20mil for Van Quyen, Bat Hieu and Quoc Vuong each.
