I get what he was trying to do on the timeouts, but it was the wrong call. Here's why. They get the first down and clock is running. He should have used timeouts there, 1st down, and 2nd down. Then on 3rd down, he puts pressure on TCU whether to risk a pass and incompletion, which would save 45 seconds on the clock. By letting the clock run after the first down, TCU had a free throw on 3rd down because incompletion would not hurt them on the clock, only give Michigan on timeout left when they got the ball. And TCU almost got the first down on the throw.
Overall, no big deal, they got the ball back with 50 seconds. Did nothing with it.
