    I think USA is screwed:

    1) ENG look miles better than USA.
    2) Book is out on USA. Be more physical than them. USA play out as light-weights, no bill collector.
    3) 3rd round looks bad. If ENG has 6 pts, they'll be cruising. And Iran hates US, see 1998 World Cup:

USA will be lucky to leave the group stage. I wouldn't be surprised if Iran beat them to be honest. USA should be a legit contender 4 years from now. Probably the best lot of talent we've had in the past few decades.

The Germans are going to be an interesting team to watch for me. They are not what they were 8 years ago, with all stars everywhere. They're in that rebuilding process. I remember even 8 years ago, they were so pissed they didn't advance from 12 years ago to the finals, that they went out and built a billion dollar facility to prepare for the world cup. And every one of those veteran players was angry as hell.

Those are the types of storylines that pay off in the world cup. LB, you got any info like that for this cup? Haven't done my research.

Argentina should have beat the Germans that year. Higuine is a loser though. Brick city for him. Never seen a player get triple teamed in soccer before like Messi was against the Germans. First and only time I've ever seen that strategy in all my years of watching world cups.

France lost Kante and Pogba, the crux of their entire team, and now no Benzema, the BallonDor winner. And books don't seem to have adjusted to any of that. It's weird. I don't see how France will win without those 3 superstars, but who knows.

Nothing is worse than Italy. I knew they were a fraud in the Euro cup. I called it and kept betting against them and ended up getting buried. I took one look at that roster and was like this team is straight trash. That's the euro cup for you. Always a trash team once every couple decades that gets lucky as hell. Bunch of losers. Euro champions to out of the world cup.

Italy went into Euro with a string of 27 undefeated. They were the hottest team on the planet. The roster was trash ? Jorginho , Insigne , Veratti , Immobile , Belotti...... just to name a few star players who were playing for top clubs across Europe at the time.

Those aren't star players imo. Stars are made in the world cup. If you don't perform in the world cup, you are not a star player, simple as that. The messis and ronaldos, the ronaldhinos and rivaldos, the riberys and henrys and zidannes, these kind of guys are stars because they showed up in the biggest games in the world, not cause of what they did at their clubs. They score goals in big games, they get assists, they make plays, they advance deep, or win. The euro cup and copa america mean nothing to me. The club games mean nothing to me, they play for 15 different trophies every year. There's only one trophy that matters and that's the world cup. Those undefeated streaks mean nothing to me either. Half the teams you are playing suck and the 25% of the others aren't even trying hard because their players don't wanna get injured in a game where there's no money to be made.

I get it now. If it means nothing to you then it doesnt matter. A 27 game winning streak means nothing to you. The Euro means nothing to you. Copa America means nothing to you. Club games mean nothing to you..... Why are you in a soccer forum then ?

Because the world cup means everything to me.

Btw, didn't argentina win like 30 in a row or some shit? They just lost to Saudi Arabia. This is the world cup Franz, not some mickey mouse friendly game that doesn't mean anything.

Italy can keep their little win streak. They are at home watching the only event that matters right now, just like the rest of us.

    Donovan's commentary was very good:

*Poland's 3rd game vs ARG is now much tougher.

Can't just settle for Draw here. I think POL is convinced they won't lose headers in their own box.

Setting up the counter IMHO. Goals are coming. Just my two cents, of course.

The 5 longest periods of stoppage time for a single half of soccer at any World Cup we’re all played in Qatar this week.

England and Iran had 15 minutes of stoppage time in the first half, but there was a head injury. The second half had almost 14 minutes of stoppage time, somewhat unexplained.

There’s VAR, and other delays, but there is something more intentional.

”The purpose is to offer more show to those watching the World Cup.” - Pierluigi Collina, FIFA referees committee chairman.

He said this before the tournament started. Collina said the directive to referees is not new.
