Neither country comes into this game with any momentum. England were involved in Nations League play and failed to win in 6 games. Iran had 5 friendlies after W/C qualifying , and surprised Uruguay 1 - 0 back on Sept 26th in Austria. They were outplayed badly that day but kept the likes of Nunez and Suarez off the score sheet. The group stage of qualification was a relatively easy one for Iran. Lebanon , Iraq , Syria and U.A.E. arent exactly football's elite and they were beaten by South Korea on the road 2 - 0. Not to make excuses for England's weak performances , but they were against considerably better competition in Germany , Italy and a resurgent Hungarian side. In addition , England had a new starting 11 in every game since Southgate used the tournament as an opportunity to test out different combo's pre W/C. I dont think Iran can keep England off the board for the full 90 , and a goal by England will take Iran out of their defensive comfort zone.

Hang that one on the coaching. Like Jake said at halftime " if they can sustain that level of play , they will be a tough out ". They played with energy and confidence in the 1st half. I was impressed at the way they took the game to Wales 1st half. Why change that style of play and let Wales gain possession and momentum. Either way , neither of these 2 are going to gain any pts from England.

If you look at Argentina's last warm up game before the tournament , it should give a sneak preview of what to expect tomorrow against Saudi Arabia. They put their foot to the pedal and blasted U.A.E. 5 - 0 with a 4 goal effort in the 1st half. They owned 69% of possession and dominated without allowing a shot on goal or even a sniff of hope. With the big lead , several starters were taken off at halftime to spare U.A.E a lot more humiliation.
