Should Pete Rose be in the HOF?

    I'd say yes

    Hell yes

Giamatti passing away a week after handing down the suspension is what killed his chances

Now that mlb & all pro sports have gambling partners, doing any prohibitive post playing actions is only political & hypocritical

Bad look for MLB but 100% Pete gets in post death.

    Yes, without a doubt

None of it really makes any sense. Like, Pete Rose is strictly ineligible for HOF, then you have Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens who are eligible but nobody wants to vote them in because they cheated at the game itself. It's backwards

How about we grant eligibility to the guy who committed a gambling offense that had absolutely nothing to do with his game performance?

Why have the rule if it's meaningless...

    Like segregated baseball?

    Spitballs?

    DH/ No DH

    154 games v 162 games

    Interleague play

....the rules change. The rules are not always proper, nor are the circumstances of the times. There are gamblers, cheaters, boozers, wife beaters, rascists, bums & misogynistic personalities in the HOF....Rose is the least offensive figure left out at this point

With the legalizing of gambling in most states... I think they should allow Pete Rose in... but they'll never do it.

The story will be.... "Why did you wait this long?" And honestly... MLB doesn't want any news story from it.... that's all it is.

Gambling on a game you're playing/managing is actually a much bigger issue than PEDs. It ties back to the history of the Black Sox Scandal.

You can't ask a fan to pay for a ticket if there's a chance what he/she is watching is not on the Up-and-Up. Sidebar question:

*How many NFL covers (if not S/U results) have been intentionally tanked over the L50 years?

Ex-mobster Michael Franzese talked about talking bets from Active Athletes. Guys betting NOT on their own games, but OTHER games.

Franzese said they loved booking those guys. Credit? What credit? Your credit is that if you're stuck you owe us a FUMBLE in a key spot. That way, we'll make back our $$ 10x over.

Another little anecdote. Sort of funny:

*Paul Hornung talked about the gambling scandal that got him (and Alex Karras) banned for one year.

Rozelle accumulated the evidence against Hornung. Rozelle invited Lombardi to his NY office and showed him the documents. Even Lombardi said that "You have no choice."

Hornung didn't talk in specifics. But did imply that he'd have to be an idiot to bet against his own team (the Packers). Hornung basically said that he bet ON the Packers, b/c he KNEW that they would cover the #.

But isn't it well-established that Pete Rose never bet against his own team? That's his claim and MLB never said otherwise as far as I know. History has only uncovered a bunch of examples of him betting on the Reds. I don't think there was any tanking involved. Correct me if I've missed something

Of course he should be in the hall of fame. The hair cut alone inspired billions of Chinese people. I think he pioneered the head first slide, and brought gambling to be more mainstream. In fact he should have his own wing at the hall for all of his achievements.

Should a possible drug smuggler while manager be in HOF? A drug dealer lived with him for like 5 years. Where did his son learn to distribute date rape drugs? Is it really just about gambling? Why did Pete Rose sign and agree to conditions before and now that Giamotti is gone wants to void agreement? Pete should ask baseball to release ALL facts and info if he truly believes what he signed and agreed to should be voided. Until then we speculate and we’ll never know the whole story, but why did Rose agree to all this years earlier?

You sure about that? You don't think Jordan bet opposing players dinner on who was going to win that night or how many points he was going to put up???

The Baseball writers are the biggest hypocrites alive. They all profited with the likes of Rose, Bonds and Clemons. Baseball would be dead without these guys and they act like they are God. I have no desire to visit Cooperstown with their fraud.

    How did they profit?
Baseball writer would have been paid to write baseball with or without those three.

Do you know how many articles those guys wrote on those three? Do you know how many people read those articles? Without those guys, there would not be fan interest, there would not be those articles, there would not be those baseball writers.

I stopped going to baseball games after the big strike. You would not catch me in a stadium. Sosa and Big Mac went on their HR hitting tour and I went to several games in various cities I happen to be in. That brought me back to baseball and I've heard from dozens of other people the same story. But now, I'm supposed to forget all about how exciting it was watching these guys chase age old records? Now, I'm supposed to demonize these guys in the steroids era when THERE WAS NO RULE NOR ANY TESTING? I don't care that they took steroids. This country has always been about performance enhancing. How can we do more with less. We went from push up bras to silicon implants, penis pumps to Viagra. But these baseball Gods say it isn't so. Fukk them.

The writers still would have gotten paid regardless of what they wrote.

Clemens and Bonds were the ones who profited the most, not the writers.

I get it, you think they belong and won't go visit Cooperstown because they're being blackballed.
I'll stop going to Cooperstown f they do get elected.

    Those two didn't save baseball.
I read baseball history; I've read where the Black Sox scandal will destroy baseball.
    Yet here we are.

Rose is my favorite player ever. No player comes close. No he should definitely not be allowed in the HOF.
