Makes no sense that I can't bet Rutgers while in NJ... or Seton Hall.. or whomever.... so stupid.

Then again, NJ re-elected criminal Murphy. Why would I expect any less?

Devils advocate... You may have gone to school with Seton Hall point guard and you get insider information pretty easy as a result.

or the long snapper for Rutgers is barreled in from a local shark, so he muffs the snap to the punter.

    And?

Wouldn't this be an issue with every other state that allows same-state betting? Where's all the fixing scandals because of it?

It also won't stop someone from simply driving over the bridge to PA (as I do every day for work) to make a bet. Especially if that person knows the point guard and insider info, even more reason to make the effort.

Every situation can have an alternate point of view, including having sports gambling AT ALL.

The thing is: You have to go out of your way to do it. Maybe only a minor inconvenience, but it could be a major drawback for others. The law is the same in Virginia about no betting on them here.

If someone is going through the trouble to get insider info and/or fix, you think a short drive is going to stop them?

I'm not saying I agree with it but that's the reasoning behind it. It's the NIMBY effect. Not In My Back Yard. Most people enjoy going to casinos but they don't really want one next door.

Nobody is saying a FIX can't happen!!! They are saying why make it very easy. It happens more than we all want to even think about.

Actually this probably will not change so fast. Not a big deal. I thought this was no college gambling for a second. There is nothing people love more than pretending that college sports is amateur athletics. We don't want people damaging the integrity of Rutgers football.

We will allow all kinds of sport betting, from any country in the world, including ones you've never heard of, where shady antics never happen.... but you will NOT be allowed to bet on Rutgers or Seton Hall!!! We must maintain our integrity!

So "insider information" is ok as long as I don't live in the same state? Like nobody has access to a phone or the internet. If that's the bar then it's just another retarded law, like most of the shit put forth by our "elected" numbnuts. Not a shot at you.

Say Rutgers is playing a game next to the Meadowlands. And there is a sportsbook at the Racetrack there...Someone spreads a rumor about a fix. Maybe he's a regular at the book and there's a mad rush to bet on or against Rutgers. The book at the Meadowlands loses on this Game BIG time and there was or Was NOT any fix at ALL. They simply hope this doesn't happen.

Yeah, I don't really think integrity lessons from politicians holds water.

But "it is what it is"

That's what software and line changes are for, any real book isn't taking a bath in that scenario. It was stated above, these rules/laws are to appease the soon-to-be powerless NCAA and the do-gooders who don't even gamble. It's for the sake of image, nothing more.

Back in their championship days, my bookie told me it didn't matter if the "Redskins" were favorites of 3 or 30 his players bet them.
