Houston, BYU, UCF and Cincinnati joining Big 12 as soon as next week

Apparently a done deal. Not a bad conference and will probably begin 2023.

Those four schools are going to be pretty tough in the Big 12. Houston will get better. Cincinnati will hold its gains. UCF will get better and BYU will maintain. The Big 8 schools will most likely drop. TCU and Baylor lose a lot to Houston.

Houston is going to steal a ton of recruits now in Texas. This is very big for them. The conference was one of the things holding them back before

This move is a huge win for the schools joining. Big loss for Oklahoma State and all the Big 8 schools. Pretty big loss for TCU and Baylor but they are lucky to be in. No loss or gain for Texas Tech but probably a slight loss.

It is basically the equivalent of the old Southwest Conference and Big 8. It will be pretty competitive with the Pac 12. Maybe better. Pretty close to ACC.

This turns Houston into a Top 25 program in football and basketball. UCF becomes borderline Top 25 in football. Cincinnati will be borderline Top 25. Oklahoma State goes from Top 25 to borderline. BYU will be BYU. Sometimes Top 25. The conference will be pretty solid year in and year out with a very good team at the top regardless of who that might be.

Iowa State is going to drop like a rock.

There are going to be some unintended consequences to some of these moves. The SEC may wind up regretting elevating schools like Houston, UCF and Cincinnati. Some of this will not play out as expected. The SEC may take some hits from having mediocre records across the board.

The schools aren't going anywhere. They are not getting into any conferences. This is going to be a pretty solid conference that will be around a while. It doesn't really drop off much. They have to play somewhere.

It kills the AAC more than anything. That is just ugly. They will need to align with the Mountain West.

There are several schools in the list that will definitely be going somewhere.

There are four conferences that matter. Everything else is a shitshow

How much does it really change anything? Not much. The schools are all in the same positions. You still have the same number of Div I players. I am not sure people are just going to sit on the bench at SEC schools the way people think.

The difference is though that the schools coming in are going to get better. They are going to close the gap a lot between themselves and Texas and OU. So you are probably moving Houston and UCF up a notch or two. That is a big boost. Cincinnati is going to recruit better. They are going to be a lot better in the Big 12 than they would have otherwise. At this point, these schools project as well as Nebraska and Colorado, the two teams the Big 12 lost before. BYU will be as good as Utah. So you've got a solid conference versus the ACC and Pac 12.

It is going to be a lot better conference than people think.

Hard to say. BYU is giving scholarships to every walk on due to NIL.

None of this does any good unless they players actually get paid. How valuable is a Houston player with NIL? Especially since these Houston billionaires want Houston to win. They could rake it in.

Who knows how all this is going to work? Are just the star players going to make money or are the rich guys going to start paying everyone?

if t boone pickens couldve invested in players instead of facilities...they wouldve gotten every top recruit

    and now they might

so i dont know why you think oklahoma state will fall

weaker schedule plus paying players ----- PROFIT??????????

Oklahoma State benefits hugely by playing against Texas and Oklahoma and they have had a lot of TV money to compete. So now they will have less money, but take a big hit by losing Texas recruiting prestige. So it will be very hard for them to outrecruit Houston. They have had the most to gain so have the most to lose. Iowa State stands to lose the most from present status.

You take OU and Texas off the schedule and take away a lot of their Texas recruiting and they fall pretty fast. They will still be solid but definitely figure to drop a notch. You are also boosting UCF recruiting in Florida which hurts OSU in comparison. They are losing a lot of advantages.

I don't think players are going to get paid outright and Oklahoma is not a great location for NIL contracts.

Maybe. I know it is the same as it is for Texas and Texas A&M and those schools have never wanted to have to recruit against Houston. I know Texas is very corrupt and nowhere more corrupt than Houston.

Yes, I am talking about the future of Houston and Oklahoma State. The future is not the same as the past. I think Houston figures to be top dog in the conference in the future. All of the newcomers figure to be the tougher teams in the conference.

Texas was one of the first states to jump on NIL. If they are not competitive, they will change it. They will just let them pay the players if they need to.
