Potential SEC realignment news has college football world going wild

Trump’s Inner Circle Worried He Was ‘Dangerous for the Country’ New Book Says

The rich might be getting richer in the college football world as two high-profile schools might be interested in joining the SEC.
© Provided by The ComebackAccording to the Houston Chronicle, Big 12 powerhouses Oklahoma and Texas have reportedly reached out to the SEC about joining and creating a 16-team “super conference.” It was also revealed that an announcement could come “within the next couple weeks.”

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey issued a “no comment” and a “high-ranking Texas official” told Rivals.com’s Anwar Richardson that they had “nothing to say.” So while they obviously didn’t admit anything, they also didn’t deny anything either. Many are taking that as a hint that there might actually be something to the story.

If this actually happens, it would have a massive ripple effect throughout college football. The SEC would be even stronger while the Big 12 would essentially lose their top two revenue generating schools. For the two schools, it would be a more difficult road to the College Football Playoff (even if it expands) but it’s clear this is more of a financial decision than a competitive one.
Given that 3/4 of the SEC would have to approve Oklahoma and Texas, it might be somewhat difficult for those schools to get the votes. Either way, it’s got the college football world going.

Just give Vandy and Arkansas to the Big 12 and it won't be expansion. Just a mutual swap. Texas can't win the Big 12 with a few good teams in it and Oklahoma can't win a playoff game no matter who they play. Both team would be middling teams in the SEC and frequent OutBack and Liberty Bowl participants.

The ncaa ruling and this Bama kids $1mm make the SEC basically its own entity.

It will form its own football and basketball league, get out of the ncaa and title9 obligations and be basically a professional league

The SEC is a lot easier to sell to high profile athletes than the Big 12. This maximizes the dollars for future potential athletes at these universities.

Be a great move. Players want to play in the SEC. Texas already has rivals in A&M and Bama.

I guess put them both in the west and move a couple to the east?

That SEC west will be a beast.

Or put Oklahoma in the east to balance the conference a bit more. That would make the east more of a 3-way battle instead of just UGA and FL.

Option 2: Move Bama and the Barn to the east.

Man I love that idea! The east would be a beast with Bama and Auburn going over.

The west would be a beast too with Okl, Texas, LSU, A&M.

This story looks like it has legs. At the very least Texas appears to be breaking away and going independent. OU is doing whatever Texas wants. They have said that before. Not sure these schools will actually be able to vote against when it comes time to making money.

The SEC is not really a conference. It is a league with two conferences. The one conference is a lot worse than the other. Moving Alabama and Auburn over really improves both conferences both from a competition and viewer point of view. This would be a really smart move if they are smart enough to make it.

Think of the endorsements. That would wipeout the other power conferences

By moving Alabama and Auburn, you basically get the old SEC back. By moving in Texas and OU, you get the best of the old Southwest Conference. They should probably move Missouri over there and take Mississippi State or LSU to the other. LSU would probably like being in the same conference with Texas and Texas A&M though.

Then you basically have Alabama and Texas with their own conferences and you hope they play for the championship every year. It is like the Yankees and the Red Sox. Everybody agrees to just let them kick their ass because they make more money that way.

I'm getting psyched out just thinking about it!

Bama vs Fl - every year Monster Game
A&M vs Texas - back on Thanksgiving Day Monster Game
LSU vs Okla - OK, I made that one up but maybe new Monster Rivalry?
    Bama vs Georgia Monster Game
Auburn vs South Carolina - OK, made that one up too

And how about the conference championship game??!!! Fugging mega Monster Game!

I know the SEC has wanted Texas really bad for a long time. They are going to crack the whip on this.

If it comes down to it, the SEC may tell Texas A&M and Missouri that they would rather have Texas than have them.

Curious to what happens with the Big 12 if this happens. I would think they would be making calls to Houston, SMU, Cincinnati, and BYU at this point. That would still make them a great basketball conference, at least.

A big reason why teams left the Big 12 (Nebraska, Mizzou, A&M, Colorado) is Texas takes the majority of the revenue share.

I'd be surprised if the SEC submits to Texas in any similar contract agreements.

They don't want Houston in the conference because they would outrecruit them. The Big 12 becomes a step above the Mountain West. They would probably take Cincinnati over Houston just to avoid them. BYU might be something they would do but they don't like BYU not playing on Sundays. So they might opt for something else. They would be smarter to take North Texas but they are not going to want to be Texas centered. They would probably actually take Air Force.

What the Big 12 should do is add Houston, North Texas, Boise State, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Texas State and Tulane and then try to build up. Over time that could become a pretty strong conference with regional diversity and strong markets. They are not that smart.

Actually, only A&M left because of they were mad at Texas. Nebraska got a better deal from the Big 10 so they left for the money. Colorado got in the Pac 12 because it did not want Baylor so they took Colorado as a pre-emptive action. Then the deal fell apart and they were stuck with them. Missouri just went along for the ride with A&M as a pair because they got more money.

I hope Texas just winds up going independent out of all this. That would be really interesting.

This is the the reason I questioned this when I first read it The revenue that Texas gets in the Big 12!! On the other hand the sooners have been the bigger draw for years and still get screwed when they pass out the TV revenue!! In the SEC those are divided evenly among all schools Vandy gets same as Bama
