Bears legend Steve Mcmichael has ALS

    https://bearswire.usatoday.com/2021/04/23/bears-news-steve-michael-als-diagnosis/amp/

Gutted to see this. Nfl started for me with the 85 bears. He was a tremendous player.

Remember when he joined WCW as a wrestler and announcer.
He was funny and witty, enjoyed watching him

Fuq. That sucks. Guy gave his heart and soul to Bear fans.

I'm going to find a clip from the Bear documentary.

Laker: *Do u think the contact-sport stuff contributes to ALS? Tim Green story is similar.

What an awesome team. Ask Joe Theismann about the '85 Bears.

Just watched the interview he did. Guy is crushed. Humbling experience from a guy who used to throw qbs around can't lift a cup of coffee now.

Very sad to see. I had an aunt and good friend who both suffered from ALS. It’s a crippling disease. God bless.

Was he taking steroids during the wrestling days? Just wonder if there is a connection b/w steroids and ALS and we may see more of this......

    From wikipedia:

A 2012 retrospective cohort study of 3,439 former NFL players found that their risk of dying from neurodegenerative causes was three times higher than the general US population, and their risk of dying from ALS or Alzheimer's disease was four times higher
So there are small connections between head injury (and also smoking) and developing ALS.

Of course it does. Go watch the clips of the 85 Bears or Dick Butkus before that. The game was 5x more violent then it is today with equipment that didn't protect as well.

It's so hard for a Defensive Tackle to be a playmaker. So many of these guys are pawns who just absorb blockers.

Think about how many blocks he ABSORBED so Singletary could navigate to make plays.

Many people with big names dying lately. Celebs and athletes I grew up watching as a kid keeling over now. I guess that happens when you're in your mid 50's like I am.

Anyone up for a celebrity death pool for bet points? lol.. Who's got next up??

Watching "The Pride of The Yankees" as I re-read LB's original post.

What a horrible disease this is.
It's been a long time with no breakthroughs with this affliction.
I wish those that are stricken every comfort possible until
    there is a cure.

He ain't dead yet. Dude's fighting like hell.

How did you know? Impressive death pool pick. You must have read something in the news that Bobby was on his death bed. That would be cheating my friend for the $100 win!

    I didn't, I swear. But I did know he was 99.

I have a new pick, but I don't want to say because I'm not a killer.
