Why does Cokin need "tech" smarts to beat the modern line?

My opinion is that the old line used to be beatable by simpler techniques. Go read some of Cokin's old articles. He actually wrote about some of the angles he used, and they held up pretty well.

My opinion is that there is a lot more info baked into the modern line. Dave has the gift of gab. No way do I believe that's enuf to beat the house. Only group that would have a chance to beat the house over time is a Benter-type group that's assembling information and generating a # superior to the one being posted. And that's not Cokin, just my two-cents.

It's really, really ,really hard to beat the man.

Much easier to beat the gullible sports bettors.

Just 55 to 56 percent is such a hard grind.

Another two I am tracking from wagerline are 26 and 43 so far in mlb.

They had some early preseason MLB deal where you could get two guys for one.

Maybe they come back, maybe not.

    Below was their promo.

    xxxxxxxxx
$895 for early bird pricing, but right now you can lock in the #1 MLB All-Time Overall and #1 MLB All-Time Totals handicapper for the price of one! Lock in BOTH Bryan Leonard and Dwayne Bryant's baseball selections through the World Series in November for ONLY $895!

kyhawk, that's hilarious. No way Bryan Leonard even bets HIS OWN picks.

Funny story circulated about Cokin some years ago. Remember that SAT morning boiler-room shows? Sportsdesk and Proline?

Cokin always made a point of saying that he always personally bet every game he gave out. It was Dave's way of saying that he was legit.

Well, that's true, he did bet it. But the ticket-writers started leaking info that he was a $10 and $20 bettor. Literally, min-bet or just above it.

Dave didn't like that. So, he stopped betting local. Took his game online, to avoid the ridicule.

Years ago, 1982???, FH and I flew to Vegas for a FB weekend. We were still attending Univ of Iowa..

We stayed at the dumpy Landmark.

I paid $500 for Jim Feist picks. He based everything on stars. He lost 20 stars that weekend. O'fer.

I lost a ton and just about did me in as a dopey beginner.

ky, if people are honest about it, everyone has a story similar to that.

Truly amazing that Root wound up being the Vice-Pres candidate on the Libertarian ticket. Root came as close as anyone to admitting that it was a complete fraud. "It's all about the marketing."

Feist's 1994 GOY was Penn St (-11) at Illinois.

Penn St had the great team. But Illinois had a great defense, w/ a super crop of LBs.

Of course, ILL jumps on them to lead 21-0 early. Kerry Collins fights back, very late 99-yd drive gets the PennSt winning TD. Penn St wins, 35-31.

Feist spouts off on the show, as if he wants a do-over: "Penn St spotted Illinois 21 pts...and then dominated the rest of the game."

    GTFOH.

Do you feel the same about stocks? Do you think an investor needs all the info to beat the rest of the market?

What about the concept of index funds and market direction? Have you seen the KVB MLB Contrarian Backbone chart?

Sports and stocks have a lot more in common that you might think, including broader market movement and manipulation. There may not be a need to "out info" the house when we all have the same information.

It was never about the information, it's about how you use that information.

I thought it was obvious. I don't what else the numbers could mean.

Line one equals that days results. . i.e. 2 and 1
Line two equals previous day ytd ie 50 and 51
    Line 3 , add line 1 and 2 equals current ytd i.e. 52 and 52

I hope that makes sense or talk to your 6th grade math teacher.

Well it wouldn't have killed you to state that from the outset, your presentation is a little messy... Who types dates like that? Are you a human or a cyborg submitting data to your programmer?

Plus one can't be certain what sports these numbers reflect, since the guys bet across multiple leagues.

My 6th grade teacher said this thread is 5th grade caliber and wouldn't merit a smiley face much less a gold star.

My answer would be that if u BACK A WAYS in time, yes, Dave had some good years.

Even in more recent years, I know he had a very good win% on a LIMITED # of games. >60% on like 100 games or less.

Does he consistently churn a profit vs MODERN lines? I'd be very surprised. Much more skill on the gift of gab and keeping his radio gig.

hawk, got another Feist story for u.

A few years back, I would sometimes call the free line to hear Cokin's free play. Well, the processor collects your phone # 10min later.

So, I get a call from a Feist henchman. At the time, there were stories that Feist was dating a woman named Roz Juarbe. She was also on the tout show. Good-looking, at least 20 years younger than Feist.

FEIST HENCHMAN: "This is Jim Feist sports. You interested in buying some winners?"

CHUCKY: "I'm glad you called me. I got a question for you: *Is Feist fu-ckin Roz Juarbe?"

FEIST HENCHMAN: "Yeah. That's his wife."

Correct. That is why I not tracking their 4% vs 3% plays.

I am just seeing if they can win for the season picking games.
