Considering he hits in the three hole in front of Alonso, and Canha's high OBA from leadoff, Lindor better drive in runs.
If Canha gets on base, which he does quite frequently (.375) pitchers have no choice but to come in to Lindor or face two on with Alfonso coming to the plate.

Not that it mattered as the Mets won in a laugher. but Lindor could have had eight RBI, Canha in front of him was four for five.

I have to give Lindor props for that 2016 season in Cleveland.
He drove in 92 that year from leadoff which is very difficult to do.

Only two leadoff batters drove in 100 or more runs in a season, that being Blackmon (103) who did most of his damage playing 80 games at Coors, and that Nebraska Cornhusker punter Erstad for the Angels in 2000

Both teams had stacked lineups, everybody knows about those Rockies hitters, people forget in 2000 the Angels had four everyday batters that drove in 100 or more. (Mo Vaughn, Erstad, Garrett Anderson, and Troy Glaus.
And Adam Kennedy hit .300 batting behind Erstand and in front of Vaughn.

It's easier when your leadoff (Erstad) gets on for an Adam Kennedy to bat .300.
You have no choice but to pitch to Kennedy with Erstad on base, or run the risk of facing Vaughn, or Troy Glaus, or Gattett Anderson.

Scioscia had the ideal text book lineup.

He knew twenty years before I was preaching the perfect lineup is have your OBA guy bat leadoff, your best stickman batting second that can play hit and run ( a lost art these days) that can move the runner from first to third, just put your leadoff man in motion, have your stickman shoot one though the hole that the middle infielder created because he had to cover second with the man in motion.

Now you're set up, first and third no outs, stack the middle of the order with power guys, and Scioscia did just that with Vaughn, Glaus, and Anderson, next thing you know it's 5-0 in the first inning 20 seconds after you sat your ass in the seat.

You have a lineup like that, you can bat a .220 slick fielding SS eighth.
You can give up .80 in batting average if you have a SS (or 2B) that plays gold glove defense that can turn two.
A good up the middle defense makes an ordinary pitcher good, a good pitcher great.

A good up the middle defense can save your pitchers two runs a game.

They had one of the best up the middle defenses of my generation.
Parrish, Whitaker, and Trammell all won gold in 1984, and Chet Lemon should have also in CF but got ripped off.

Earl Weaver used to trot out a .220 batter to SS everyday. Mark Belanger.
Belanger couldn't hit for shit, but ask Jim Palmer and Dave McNally how many runs Brooks and Belanger saved them.

Proving good pitching usually beat good hitting, in 2002 the Angels won in all, but the lineup was not nearly as potent with Vaughn gone.
In 2002 the only batters who did anything were Glaus and Anderson.
But in 2002 Angels had three starters who won fourteen games or more (name two out of three and win valuable prizes) and Troy Percival saving 40 games.

I'm still big on OBA, others have moved on to OPS and I get their argument 100 percent.
But give me a high on base guy any day over a guy who pops 38 taters but strikes out 180 times that hits .240

What they taught you as an eight year old Little Leaguer still holds true today, that is a walk is as good as a hit.
You can't score a run unless you get on base. Simple.

Nothing drives a pitching coach and manager more bat shit crazy than his pitcher giving up a walk.
John Franco was notorious for walking a batter or two before wiggling out of it in the ninth.
Don Stanhouse was a spot starter/long reliever before he was traded over to Baltimore.
He was their closer for a couple years, anyway, Earl Weaver nicknamed Stanhouse "Full Pack" because it took twenty minutes for Stanhouse to complete an inning driving Weaver to smoke a 'full pack'

Managers would rather see a closer give up a solo homer than issue two walks in the ninth inning.
