Between Tommy and Vinny, the Dodgers may not have had the best team in the 70's and 80's, but they sure had the most entertaining teams. Tommy was made for Hollywood. He had the perfect job and got more out of his players than most other managers were able to.

Not wanting the A’s to realize that Gibson was available to punch hit, Tommy Lasorda sent Dave Anderson to the on-deck circle during Mike Davis’ plate appearance. Eckersley decided he would walk Davis to get the Anderson, whose power numbers were much lower than Davis’. Once Davis was walked, Lasorda fished Gibson from the dugout stairs. Simply awesome.

    RIP Mr Lasorda...

I'll never forget being at my grandparents for spring break from school in 1955 and my grandfather and me taking me to their beloved Ebbets field for the first time to see the Dodgers. they told me all about Koufax, Newcombe, Erskine ,Podres ect. and how any of them could hold down the Musial guy from St. Louis. The Dodgers had barely lost any games that year, into May.

it was all so amazing to take in the sights and sounds of your first big league game. and they announce the starting pitcher and it's some bum Tommy Lasorda. he lasted 1 inning, and his replacement had to go just about the whole game, and his replacement actually hit a home run to help us win.

rest in peace, Tommy. I'm sorry I was mad that you weren't a better pitcher and didn't know the legend you would become.
