I am a gambling addict and I need to quit.

All I do is gamble. All my life is consumed by this. Lost alot of relationships because I am an addict and distracted. Gambling consumes my thoughts.

I need to stop. But I say this often. And I never stop.

"And then one day you'll find, ten years have got behind you". I don't want another 10 years to pass. Wasted my 20s being an addict and this needs to stop.

Has anyone stopped at any point in their life for a long period or can share advice? I know I'm on a gambling forum but thought I'd ask.

Tried GA once before and didn't like it. Was too religious and I have nothing against anyone who chooses to believe, but I personally don't believe there is a higher power.

Set concrete limits going forward. For example, say you have $1,000 total for gambling. Limit yourself to 1-2 games per day only, and only risk a very small percentage of your total balance, maybe .05%
Set rules. If you lose multiple days in a row? Slash the small percentage in half to .025%

What you can do is bet less. I only bet on sports futures. Bet on the team that you believe will win their championship then ignore the regular season then you will transition out of betting daily and weekly.

if you are writing this on a gambling forum you do have a problem, if its something that affects your life, and don't want to go to G A for help .then i suggest see a therapist. if you have insurance you may be covered. good luck.

    Lots of degenerates with advice

I tried to stop so many times when I was younger but it never worked out. I’ve come to the realization that I’ll never stop so I’m just enjoying the ride.

If you're betting online withdraw your balance and then ask to be put on a self-exclusion list. If you're betting at a casino do the same and they will be legally required to honor your request. Seeing a therapist is probably a good idea also.

    GL to you in life.

Sorry man. You're Brain has been rewired to experience dopamine release as you cap, place bets, watch bets ect.

Quitting not necessarily a will powered thing. Better take a look if you think you are addicted

Billy Walters went broke 20 times over before he made his millions. Take a break & reevaluate the way you bet & have more patience when it comes to pulling the trigger. Get all the information the internet will give you game to game & watch the market for alarms. I’m not where I wanna be as a gambler, but what I do have is control & losing is the biggest turnoff for me. I do not chase anymore. I hope you can find your balance & success with this market/industry.

if you are serious, i would leave the forum and withdraw all balances from books. close all accounts. as bigday mentioned, take up a new hobby. i wish you luck if you choose to leave.

i am at the point where i do it for fun. in the beginning, i did it thinking i would make a nice 2nd income and those dreams fed my degeneracy. now i don't let it consume me but it is not easy by any means. when i go on a streak i get mad i didn't put more $$$ on those games. when i lose, i get tempted to chase. i have to talk to myself. i rather make deposits into my investment accounts and savings accounts and see that grow.

GA, and AA are good for support.
But if you don't really want to quit all the support groups, rehabs, what have you will not solve the problem.

    You have to want it.

In your heart of hearts if you want to stop gambling, or want to stop drinking, or mainlining dope, or what have you have a good chance of winning.

Without that desire all the self help groups etc. etc. is just a waste of time.
Well maybe not 100 percent waste of time as you may learn a thing or two something new but you won't quit without that desire to quit.

    I know.
I quit drinking 16 months ago because I wanted to.
I drank a lot. The doctors told me to stop drinking, my friends (virtual and real life) told me to stop.
I stopped, and I'm not looking back.
I stopped because like I mentioned I wanted to.

So I ask the OP, do you really want to stop?
If so you can do it.

I hope you find the support you need.

This is a tough tough racket and not everyone can handle it.

I would likely say AA or GA like Nasher said, for some assistance.

Also, close out your book accounts.

    CLOSE THE BITCOIN ACCOUNTS

and if you deposit with credit card, report the card as misplaced. They wont send you another right away until you say so

Closing bitcoin accts and creditcards will MAKE you have a 3 day window or more where you have time to realize you shouldnt deposit
