Im 31. Gambled all 20s as well. I quit all forms of gambling on jan 1 this year
Lasted until june. I started again out of covid boredom but controlling myself.

That six months though, not screaming at the tv at midnight after a huge game feels good. Your mind will reset. I wish you the best

I never bet more than I can afford to lose. I have been tempted to more times than I can count and almost every time, it turned out to be good that I never did. I set a budget and I stick to it no matter what.

Its just a form of entertainment to me that I happen to make money pretty consistently at thank you very much. Nothing life changing but I am way up over the last 20 years.

I 100% agree about it being a disease. I don't try to quit anymore, but I do try to take days/weeks off and even have a plan to only gamble in the playoffs so the disease is limited. I know the O.P. doesn't believe in a higher power, but something tells me this isn't the worse vice if its your only one.

If you can't quit OP, suggestion is to set up days to gamble and days to not gamble. No breaking your own rules. You set it, and you keep it. GL I will gamble Saturday and Sunday, nothing else all week. Once footballl is over, same thing weekends only. Monday, Tuesday, Saturday Sunday. Don't look at the games in the other 3 days. Start doing small things like that and maybe it will really help you.

One other thing for the OP to know is that when you are in your 20s, you are a complete moron. This applies to any person in their 20s.

Thank God I could not gamble in my 20s. Fortunately, I started out betting on paper because there was not any other option. I was just interested to see if I would win at it. That is kind of how I discovered that betting with money was not really important. I was just a way to keep score.

If I had known anything at all in my 20s, I would be Saddam Hussein today.

I have overcome a couple addictions before but this one is hardest to quit.
You are an addict rather than a gambling addict. Your likely root of your problem is an obsessive compulsive disorder, (OCD). This is fairly common. I am not in any way mocking or denigrating you. Quitting gambling won't solve your problem because you will find something else to replace it. Gambling is merely the current symptom of your addiction problem. People who quit 1 OCD outlet invariably drift over time into another more destructive outlet. Seeking treatment for OCD rather than gambling would be my, (ignorant and uniformed), advice. Good luck.

The hard thing about gambling is it's a silent addiction. No one knows just how addicting it is and how much time I spend on it.

Alot harder to hide a heroine addiction I would imagine.

I started gambling when I was 18 but it was fun and I was winning big for the first few years.

I wish I never won. If all I ever did was lose I don't think an addiction would have started.

You could perma ban yourself at all books
Of course i did this and demanded to be reinstated and they did...

If you really dont think you can quit downsize your bet size. 200 dollar bet seems like nothing because its 3 numbers on a screen. Its much more than that. Once you realize this. Only then will you succeed. Good luck man

Yeah. You are basically to the point you need to be. You are fed up and now just need to get to the point of quitting.

There really is not a lot of difference between successful gamblers and unsuccessful gamblers. Successful gamblers are all completely insane. They just channel their obsession and become a winner and they have extreme discipline. They never give in.

So really at this point, I think you are 90% there. It is just a matter of coming to terms with why you are gambling and either deciding to win or quit. Just quitting would be the best thing but you should be able to come to terms with your gambling if you keep at it and keep trying.

I'm not addicted to gambling and can quit anytime. But I'll share one experience with you.

I was betting college basketball for a while. Started as an experiment. I did pretty well. I had two full season of winning. Then the next two years I won more than I lost but was down a little. Overall I hit about 53%.

It was a real kick at first. But CBB is a hard sport to get your head around and I was sick of it. But I decided to go one more year. Spent $37 on a Blue Ribbon. Started 14-24 and now I'm really sick of it and pissed off. But I am not giving up there. Immediately turned around and went 30-14 and quit right there. Just didn't like it and didn't really know what I was betting. I was sick of looking at the Drake and Bradley line.

Every year I think about how happy I am not betting CBB.

    GL, op.

I think you need to find purpose. Get full on purpose and you won't need to use gambling to fill a void. Start a business. Grind it out. Become successful and gambling day in/day out will feel silly. Only way to beat it imho.

That's really disgraceful that they lifted your self-imposed permaban. That literally defeats the whole point of that option.

I blacklisted myself off of several online poker sites a few years ago because I literally could not stop playing, whether I was winning or losing. All three sites wouldn't let me reopen my account, no matter how hard I tried pleading with them (telling them I was drunk at the time, or just tilted, or a family member did it, etc) - it pisses me off but I'm grateful that they upheld their end of the bargain.

Of course I'm on Ignition and ACR now, and I try to get them to blacklist me from the online casino because no matter how much I grind away at poker, the complete idiotic moron in me ventures over to the online casino and (yes I'm serious) pisses away money at digital Three Card Poker or Digital Roulette

You will find that this is going to be mental beatdown. This is the point that people double up, but you have to try to stick it through.

If you cannot complete that exercise, you are not a gambler.

The main reason people fail at gambling is lack of discipline not bad handicapping, if you can’t manage your emotions you won’t last no matter what your intellectual abilities.

If you want to sweat a bet, try making one where you have to stop gambling for all time. That's a sweat!!!

You will probably not succeed the first time but try, try again.

It is easy to get a dopamine rush when you reset to 0-0 over and over. Tougher when you are 201-201 and become 202-201.
