James Harden Can't Play Well With Other Superstars

One of the most outspoken commentators around, Stephen A. Smith, reacts to Russell Westbrook, who is currently owed $132.6 million over the next three seasons, reportedly wanting to leave James Harden and the Houston Rockets:

“I’m telling you what I have heard: they don’t want to play with each other any more. Russell Westbrook doesn’t want to play with James Harden. James Harden doesn’t want to play with Russell Westbrook.”

Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, and now Westbrook. Hope he doesn't get married. He'll be paying alimony out the ass.

“Westbrook, sources say, has made it known for quite some time now that he would like to see significant changes to the Rockets’ culture. Specifically, his desire for more team-wide accountability, discipline and structure have been the focus of talks with team officials.

Throughout the season, Westbrook was the consistent presence who kept Harden accountable and the two close friends had several verbal exchanges that sources described as ‘tense, but needed’,” Iko reports.

Westbrook has asked the Rockets for a trade this offseason, whereas Harden remains ‘committed’ to the team.

Westbrook is garbage, if Harden had a hall of gamer in their prime he’d be fine, his had a man old Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and an past prime Westbrook.

They doubled Harden a lot during the playoffs and left Westbrook wide open. He needs to play with another guard that can hit wide open 3s, Westbrook ain't it.

Harden has never played with any superstars since he left okc, Paul, Westbrook, Howard, all past their prime. He played well with Durant.

This was their second time around on the same team..
Thought maybe they would have learned a thing or two about how basketball is a team sport..

harden might be the "worst" superstar in the NBA right now. he is awesome on the playground but horrible to get you a championship.

i can see the knicks bringing westbrook in. would not shock me.

Harden is a loser, always has been. He might be autistic, at this point he just doesn't get it. Totally oblivious to how he plays and how no one wants to play with him

when you see how things played out with that original thunder big 3 it is funny to see what happened. just proves 3 guys with tons of talent does not equal a perennial championship team.

OKC not extending Harden is probably one of the biggest "what ifs" of the last decade in the NBA.

This is one of the things that happens with a free lance, run and gun offense. Live and die by the three world.

That is how you beat Houston is force them to play a half court game. They need a better half court offense than step back 3's at the end of the 24 second clock.

I used to hate Harden but I appreciate his game more and more. He is the ISO king.

Harden isn't that athletic but the things that he does on the court is a thing of beauty. He is one of the two players that changed the game of basketball. The other being Curry...

I can watch this all day

He needs players like DeAndre Jordan and Dennis Rodman. High energy role players that will play defense and get him rebounds. He just needs another guard and a small forward that can shoot 3's.

At some point individual talent becomes counterproductive to winning when teammates don't get involved and stand around watching one player dribbles the air out of the ball for a step back 3 or hoping for free throws.

Couple that in with the chronically charmin soft defense and you have a player that no one wants to play with. Morey and dantoni enabled this broken style of basketball through harden and all it amounts to are empty regular season stats without ever sniffing a legitimate shot to win when it matters.

Its why a player like Jamaal Murray is already far better than harden from a winning standpoint or complete player that can win

That's why I said he needs to play with role players that will play defense. Having too many scores is counterproductive. Not enough balls to go around to make everyone happy.

This day and age, there aren't players like Rodman that focused on rebounds and defense since everyone just wants to bomb 3s but I'm sure they're out there.

The rodman's and Ben Wallace's are around today only they've evolved into complete bigs that can do everything like Anthony Davis or bam adebayo. The traditional rebounding, paint protecting big died when Tyson Chandler became irrelevant.

I just don't think a team could ever win with harden as the guy. Its like the smoking hot chick you see at parties and get togethers. She's got 3 kids with 2 different fathers and working on another sucker. Is she bangable? Absolutely. Can you trust her to win in life with you? FUKK NO

The Rockets haven't announced anything official, but it seems like they will start making players available to the media virtually on Wednesday.

James Harden and Russell Westbrook have not spoken publicly since the Lakers series ended, so this week could be quite interesting.

Westbrook has no knees and still can't shoot the outside jumper with consistency. Gotta be nuts to pay for that contract at this stage in his career. He'll be sitting out games next season with his knees guaranteed.

Harden is the type of player that must have the ball 80% of the time in order to produce. Whether it's scoring... or being involved mentally in the play up and down the court.

You go to a HOTTER player.... 3-4 times down the court.... and then give the ball back to Harden... he gets ICE COLD. That's just his DNA.

Kobe Bryant could score..... take trips off.... and let others score.... and then get HOT AGAIN... Harden can't do that.

Looks like Harden will be playing with John Wall now. Good swap for Houston if John Wall can stay healthy.

It's crazy to think Westbrook, Durant and Harden were all on the same team once.
