I don't know, but I'm not going to watch too many Angels games this year. Even with the 3 batter rule, Joe Maddon likes to change pitchers like underwear. Yesterday's game was over 4 hours long, and we're 3 hours into today, and just starting the 7th inning.

Difficult to rehab from Tommy John as it is

Doing it in Covid quarantine and interupted season is uncharted territory

Shohei Ohtani expressed some discomfort in his pitching arm. He underwent an MRI exam.

Shohei Ohtani's velocity was better today and reached 97.1 mph but his final three fastballs in the second inning were 89.6 mph, 89.1 mph and 89.7 mph. He threw 48 pitches in the second.

I don’t see the point in a 60 game situation. Could give the guy almost 2 years on the shelf or better yet, maybe he isn’t a MLB pitcher. Striking out those meats in Japan has to be easier than these guys over here.

Make him a one inning closer if you can get that fastball to a consistent 97 with movement.

Ohtani became the first pitcher since 1903 to bat second for a team.

This was an interesting post from August.

Thinking now is that it would be giving away 20-30 hr's.

If he racks up the wins and gets the hr's jaker's right, potential MVP candidate right there.

If he wins 10 and jacks 25 I think you gotta really look at it. He's proven fragile though and he plays with Trout so it's a tough road

    That's what I'm thinking.

And 12 and 30 would really toss him into the discussion.

The article I got the earlier stat from brought up the potential closer situation. If he is a reliever, but has to bat in the previous inning, when do you warm him up? Also, he goes from being the DH to a pitcher, so if the game goes longer, they lose the DH for the rest of the game, and the pitcher must bat unless you use a pinch hitter.

He could pinch hit on days he's not pitching as well.

So perhaps giving him a non starter role might not give up all his HR's, but some.

    Maybe there's something to it.

Potentially a great Middle Reliever? Start him at DH...pitch him thru the middle innings. If u need to use closer for one inning, those guys rarely have to bat.

Let him pitch to one guy only, even if it's the opposing pitcher , then yank him, unless you want to lose the game.

Idk , he's not a bad pitcher stuff wise
    Pretty nasty late rising fastball
    that can hit triple digits
And a slider with lot of sick movement at 85
    to compliment the 100mph heater

Future put away pitch is his splitter

Curveball that is better than average also

Stop pitching for another season and see how the arm feels later. It takes time to heal and batting doesn’t help so take more time to heal.

i would look into him being a closer. he can dominate an inning going all out. the bad thing is if he blows a lead and you lose your DH now to keep his bat in the game as mentioned.

    Here we go.

Ohtani has 7 home runs and is tied for first in the league in HR's.

    He starts tonight.

I do believe the last time a player was in first place in HR's and was the starting pitcher of a game may have been Babe Ruth.
