The Pac-12 announced recently that it will play a conference-only schedule in 2020, and we now know that the start of the season will be a bit delayed.

According to Jon Wilner of The Mercury News, the Pac-12 is preparing for teams to play 10-game schedules beginning on Sept 19. Conference officials have also prepared nine-game schedules that could be implemented depending upon what happens with the coronavirus pandemic going forward. Teams would not begin formal training camp until the beginning of August.

The schedule is expected to span over 14 weeks, with two bye weeks built in for each team. That will create windows where changes can be made in the event that games cannot be played as scheduled. The Pac-12 Championship, which will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, was originally scheduled for Dec. 4. That date remains an option for the title game if all goes to plan, but it is one of three weekends that have been tabbed as possible dates for the game.

Other conferences will likely follow similar models, and one prominent athletic director already said he wants the season to start later. If all the major conferences play conference-only schedules, a later start is a possibility nationwide.

    YUP

no one wants to be the "bad guy" and be the first conference to fold like a coleman tent

it will be the pac 12 or b1g that shuts it down first

SEC or ACC will be last (red states)

It is now obvious to anyone who knows the first thing about college football that this is going to drag on for at least TWO months if not longer. All of these schools making contingency plans to start the season in OCTOBER, if necessary. October and November have 9 Saturdays between them. That and the first week in December is certainly very doable as a last resort for EVERY Power 5 Conference. If the SEC opts for a 10 game all conference schedule, the ACC will drop their non-con option and also schedule 10 conference games. The Big 12 will still have problems, only having 10 schools.

The first two Pac 12 games to be "postponed" are USC @ UCLA and Arizona State @ Arizona. Put the mortgage on that.

The players will win this one. You can't cancel FALL sports because its to much of a risk for those athletes, yet push on with football because there is a monetary value to football being played. If football can be played then so can volleyball, equestrian, bowling, rowing, lacrosse, track and field, swimming, golf, baseball, softball, etc.

Reportedly players want 50% of revenue. Pac 12 will not play football.

Other conference players are likely going to follow suit.

The players see the money grab so they want to leverage their power now.

It's not a money grab for the players. It's fair compensation. It's a money grab for the commissioners, coaches, and college presidents. That is why tabling the other fall sports is no big deal, they don't bring in any money or even worse lose money. As much as everyone wants to look at them as amateurs the realization is that they are bringing in professional money and should benefit from it much more than the cost of scholarship like the non revenue sports.

Read the players demands. This group of mostly black players is led by a bunch of black misfits at UCLA. They want the Coaches to take a massive pay cut so they can get paid. These fools are going to learn that the facts are this. 80% of these players would not be in college if not for athletic scholarships. They certainly do not have the brains or grades to get in. Black Lives may matter to them (becasue most of them are Black), but not to many people who are not black. So they can shove that up their tails. They will get no sympathy. The Pac 12's brand of Football has been for s**t lately, so no one is really going to care what they do. Covid 19 is going to cancel most, if not all of the season, so no one cares if these idiots threaten to boycott the season. Basically, these players can take their demands and shove them up their arses.

Last time I checked the schools were recruiting the players not vice versa. Every new coaching hire always talks about hitting the recruiting trail. If the coaches don’t win, they dont get to stick around. So as long as the schools continue to recruit 80% of the players who are NOT supposed to be there this will be an issue. You are talking as if you would actually be paying the players from your wallet. Trust me, that is not the case. If the PAC-12 wants to play football in 20% filled stadiums the schools might want to also make sure the other scholarship sports are played too. Most players who don’t have a professional future don’t see the need to risk in football what schools are not willing to risk with other FALL less contact sports.

If Management(Coaches,Athletic Directors, Conference Officials) tries to get as much as they can, why shouldn't labor try to improve their situation? Last I heard, Slavery was abolished.

Washington State is already starting to cut players who support this stupid movement. WAZZU has one of the weakest teams in the Pac 12, and has a next to nothing chance of finishing at .500 or better with the new 10 game all conference schedule. They lose three winnable non-con games and add a trip to USC. Where are these players going to go? Which other team n a Power 5 Conference would want them? Do you think that the Big 12, SEC, or ACC would put up with this B.S? This is not the pros. where players get paid to play according to their talent level. This is College, where kids try to develop their talents to get to the pros. These Black kids are just trying to get what Blacks always try to get. A free ride. They want to b e paid for something they have NOT earned. Only dumb Liberal fools would back the players in this.
