Consider the hypotheticals:

Will they have enough if corona gets real bad and Trump starts dishing 2k per month to every person?
Will they have enough if corona gets eradicated by a vaccine in a few months and employment goes sky high again along w stock market?
Will they have enough if they see Biden stumble on national TV?

A lot more hypotheticals just like these that can come into play.

Another way to look at it for each of those presidents and the more likely reason they beat the incumbent, was due to the MAJOR issues occurring at the time for the sitting president.

FDR - defeated Hubert Hoover --> Hoover had the great depression

Reagan - beat Carter --> The wheels fell off Carter's re-election due to the economy collapse/inflation and the failed rescue attempt of the hostages in Iran.

Clinton - beat H.W. Bush --> For Bush the economy was in mild recession and the "Read my lips. No new taxes" pledge that fell through.




Unfortunately, for Trump, we have Covid-19 and a screwed up economy as a result. These are MAJOR issues like those for each incumbent above. Unless it turns around, re-election may not occur.

Here's the scary thing about this.... absent Obama, I believe 3of 4 last incumbent elections resulted in the incumbent being tossed or losing the popular vote (RE 80, GHWB 92, GWB 04). Obama crushed 2x, Trump lost popular vote by a wide margin in 16.

I understand the popular vote doesn't matter generally speaking, however it does impact the news cycle and represents a tidal wave of populism.

Grab Biden or DEM -130/-145 , Trump cannot win reelection without MI/WI/OH/PA/ FL.

Desantis alone is going to cost Trump Trump Florida because of the unemployment insurance disaster that has left hundreds of thousands of 18-50 yr old service industry participants who were initially excited about him, they are finished
