My guess is that all American sports will get cancelled this year after these recent outbreaks.

If anyone thinks there will be football this year, I feel bad for ya...

49ers all have it as well.

Sports are done and will remain done.

So far unanimous in here that team sports in the USA are done for the calendar year. Surprising because baseball and basketball seemed very possible.

Because people abroad actually care about their country and the people that live in it.

College football is done. Players don't care. They will go infect themselves and then spread to others. You can't change how 18 year olds think. They think with their penis and not with their brain. Anyone who went to college knows what I'm talking about.

Only one confirmed case on 49ers. Others on team waiting for results.

This is why there will be no football this year. If any team suffers an outbreak, which will happen, every player has to sit. Teams will have to play 25-30 guys short or, in the case of the NFL, play with a roster literally half-full of taxi squad or CFL-caliber players. Add to that the fact that even an Elway, Manning, Rodgers, etc.-type impact player won't be able to get around a positive test and it'll be chaos.

If NFL won't be done due to Corona, which I believe it will, it will be done for Black Lives Matter shit. There won't be football. Keep dreaming though. Time to pick up sewing or something.

I saw one NFL coach say that he will keep the 3rd string QB out of the training facilities isolated because when the team gets infected he doesn't want to lose all 3 QB's to quarantine.

I believe that. You might see an NFL full of third or fourth stringers; hello again XFL.

notice how none of these "infected" people actually have any symptoms

i thought this coronavirus was supposed to be the deadliest thing in the history of the world, instead it's more like water off a duck's back unless you're already in hospice care

Good, get sick now, then you'll be better when practice starts.

I don't know what else to say.

NCAAF, without fans in the stands, is bad for us in the gambling racket. Really bad.

I think the games will be shorter. No celebrations after every tackle or catch on every play as no one will be there to cheer.

So are the players getting the virus at the practices? Because the schools are closed for classroom teaching, right? So basically there is no protocol to test players like they do at the pros (soccer).

No, if they can't put fans in the stands, many athletic programs will suffer, including all sports and there will be no games at all.

Ticket sales for NCAAF games can make a large percentage of the entire budget for some schools.

Without fans, they can not afford to play games. That's why we need fans, or there will be opportunity lost betting wise.

    that doesn't make any sense

the tv revenue more than offsets any costs they have... players are already on scholarship and coaches' salaries are guaranteed aren't they?

i think the actual cost to a college of having a game is no different than having a scrimmage... close to 0

TV revenue in college is way lower than the pros.

And how do you social distance and play football?

I think for college towns the loss of revenue for small businesses will be devastating. A lot of them will fold. The fans spend hundreds of dollars each in the local economy on weekends.

oh absolutely... places like madison, wisconsin... those bars/restaurants were already crushed because of the school shutting down/lockdowns... now even if school comes back to normal, if there are no football/basketball games you might as well close 1/2 of them

Not every school has an SEC TV revenue contract.

I'll say it again...NCAAF ticket sales are a major part of the budget for most of the schools in division 1.

Some schools are already adjusting budgets for other sports, or cutting them outright, because of this. Some budgets go out many years and many schools are fukked, already making adjustments.

Some schools could play and afford to take a tens of millions dollar hit, but many schools can't afford it.

Some schools might play football, take a loss, then decide whether to outright cut some programs like swimming or just cut some of all programs in the department.

Real issues here schools are facing now.

yeah but my point is i think they're even more fukked if they don't play... all these schools killed themselves by being "woke" and then automatically closing classes for the rest of the spring semester... i have talked to quite a few former students that have no intention of ever going back
