Cant we just program all satellites to fly directly at the sun at their end of life? Seems ez enough and eventually it’ll just disintegrate or be Mercury and Venuses problem

I dunno, that would mean pulling it out of orbit from around the sun.

Easier said than done from this distance. Would take a lot of fuel and nudging to keep it, it would shorten the usage life of that satellite around earth, probably a lot.

You would either need to have enough fuel to pull out of the sun's stable orbit (which is stronger gravity on us than the earth), or without all the fuel, you could calculate some sort of "fly by" route of the inner planets to get the velocity to break the orbital velocity.

That's kind of how the shot spacecraft out of the suns orbit.

It's effectively the same thing, only the other way.

Interesting to consider though. I think it's also why we don't just pack up our excess plastic and shit and send it to the sun. Instead it's become another literal continent in the Pacific ocean that we lovingly call the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch."

    "Patch"...Un fukkin real.

I hope all is well Kraken!

All is well my man, same back at ya!

I honestly don’t know anything about satellites and orbits, good explanation...

Interestingly, I took care of a gentleman in Oklahoma that wrote the book for NASA on re-entry trajectories back in the 60’s. He’s prolly long gone now as he was fairly sick and this was 10 years ago. He had some great stories about Neil and Buzz, the Apollo mission, the team that worked on it etc.... Said his very first day on the job he shows up, finds his supervisor and asks him “which books can I read to learn what I need to know”, supervisor said “Son, this is NASA, we don’t read books we write them” I always loved that answer.

Yeah, fuel costs make it prohibitivley expensive, even for a light satellite.

They would absolutely most likey plan a route to slingshot around the inner planets to speed up enough to catch up to the sun. Would take forever for a satellite and would still need that extra fuel to perform the move.

Too bad they couldn't launch. They did such a great job at their politically correct hiring of the people who filled the 5 hour lead up.

well if people are gonna believe silly lies then i take some solace in trying to wake up 1 or 2 of them

i can't take a plane to hawaii without needing to stop for more fuel... yet these plane-sized rockets can go 200,000 miles each way, no problem, yeah OK

    Dumb quote

Can't write books without reading them

Can't do anything NASA does without intense readings of mathematical and scientific theory of those that came before them

All innovation stems from previous research

And today's research will be the blueprint for tomorrow's research

    And so on
