We shut down our entire economy, left many jobless/homeless and destoyed small business for what? To save some 70, 80 and 90 year olds in poor health?

Just think about these stats for a moment:
-Manitoba 6 deaths (1.4 million live here)
-Saskatchewan 4 deaths (1.2 million live here)
-Alberta 61 deaths (4.5 million live here)

Have we gone insane as a society? Just lock these people in care homes up for a couple months and get this virus over with.

Last year 27,000 died in Alberta. Like what in the actual hell are we doing?

Agree that We (USA) have taken this Shelter-in-Place too far. IMHO, Sweden has got this right.

Sweden’s unusual approach to fighting the coronavirus pandemic is starting to yield results, according to the country’s top epidemiologist.

Anders Tegnell, the architect behind Sweden’s relatively relaxed response to Covid-19, told local media the latest figures on infection rates and fatalities indicate the situation is starting to stabilize.

“We’re on a sort of plateau,” Tegnell told Swedish news agency TT

Sweden has left its schools, gyms, cafes, bars and restaurants open throughout the spread of the pandemic. Instead, the government has urged citizens to act responsibly and follow social distancing guidelines.

    Sweden? That well-known bastion of "Democratic-Socialism" ???

    Well,
    hmmm,
    not so fast my amigo

Just checking the numbers of several countries, for a better comparison we need to
express death toll per each 1,000,000 population. Then we can compare how smaller
population countries are faring compared to much larger population countries.
I've expressed the stats below as number of deaths per million pop.(slight rounding)

*denotes, known to have implimented tough mitigation/testing, compared to USA,
either by Federal gov'ts or local governing authorities.

    2.20 *Japan
    2.80 *NewZealand
    4.70 *South Korea
    10.7 *Poland
    25.2 *Finland (neighbor to Sweden)
    33.5 *Norway (neighbor to Sweden)

    50.4 ...Canada [SLOW response!]
    56.7 *Austria
    60.5 *Germany
    63.8 *Denmark (neighbor to Sweden)

    136.2 ...USA [SLOW response!]
    146.0 ...Ireland [SLOW response!]

174.8 ..SWEDEN <<<<< let nature take its natural course

    228.0 ...Netherlands [SLOW response!]
    256.0 ... UK [SLOW response!]
    319.0 ...France [SLOW response!]
    407.0 ...Italy (epicenter!) [SLOW response!]
    464.0 ...Spain [SLOW response!]
    516.9 ...Belgium [SLOW response!]

But just because someone is a certain age, or have existing issues they're dealing with, they should all get an instant death sentence just so those who don't can move forward?

    It's a tough call.

But remember we're all going to be older and/develop some health issues some day, and then your opinion might change.
