Then the sooner a definitive isolation can take place for those with the virus.

Football will be impacted in some way no matter what. The offseason will be too short for many teams and players. Getting rookies and free agents acclimated will be challenging as well.

Kirk seems a bit premature here but maybe espn should take him up on it and furlough him since there will be no games to call. Bet he changes tune real quick.

the only thing he cares about is building his brand (HIMSELF)

people should tell him to go fukk himself

How many college players live in their own houses equipped with all the machines required to lift weights?

Once testing becomes mainstream and hospital ER's work at 70% capacity (not 270%), there is no reason fans shouldn't attend games as usual. If you then go and visit your elderly parents or immunocompromised friend and infect them, it's on you. Teams should allow fans to cancel tickets and get refunds easily, but all it will take to pack NFL stadiums is have good quality games and maybe drop admission prices 10-15% for the upcoming season.

Why do you think Trump is signing the 2 trillion help bill? To have the country on a lockdown for 3 more years?

Yes, and the revived economy is exactly why leagues will compete with each other even more than usually. This is a new world, a fresh slate and a chance to draw fans from another sport. Incredible business opportunities ahead. Once Adam Silver figures out how to play NBA games in a bubble, leagues will do anything necessary to follow suit. Even if it means playing a season that's less profitable than usual.

How right have you been so far?

Virginia now extended lockdown to June 10. They are just head of the curve. After lockdown, you still have to be spread out. No crowds. Seasons are definitely in jeopardy now.

only takes common sense not a medical degree. anything you want or need to know about COVID 19 is available through several consumer choices. take your pick.

the tests are unreliable. people giving them have not been trained. they inflate the positive results to get maximum federal funding. will end up with 10% more deaths than in a regular flu season with this rookie virus. not a reason to shut down the country beyond may 1.

The experts say this is coming back in the fall. So even if you beat corona and unlock and start, there has to be a 33% chance that the whole season gets cancelled anyway.
    ======
As I posted in another thread, one has to wonder HOW sports could (will?) survive without fans in attendance (ie.gametime revenues from all sources like gate receipts, food & bev, parking, advertising)
All we can do now is speculate, but it's at least possible the pros in every major sport can survive where television or streaming rights will comprise most of their revenues. They'll take a significant hit mind you, but it's theoretically possible without fans. Currently TV rights contributes about 65%+ of their gross revenues.
But conversely I don't see how most US college football/basketball could do it.
In a large number of universities/colleges the revenues generated from gametime revenues fund huge portions of not only their athletic programs but in some cases the university itself! They'll take massive hits, particularly the much more numerous smaller and mid-size institutions who don't get big money from tv/streaming rights!!
    .
It seems reasonable to surmise that with so many people cautious of crowds going forward, not just today but still in significant numbers for the next 12-18 months - whilst at the same time trying to recover from near economic devastation throughout north america (ie. rising & cripling debts, reduced savings, business bankruptcies (possibly including many Oil companies!!), skyrocketing unemployment) - even if they try to start the leagues the seats will be largely empty (huge losses in revenues!). AND with money being so much tighter all around, advertising revenues even for TV /streaming rights will be significantly impacted.
Very hard decisions about program viability may be forced.
Even that assumes it would be completely safe for athletes to compete face-to-face WITHOUT a vaccine.

Read: "The timetable for a coronavirus vaccine is 18 months!"

No disrespect intended to either above OPs,
but one has to wonder how much effect COVID-19 testing will actually achieve in the long-term.
Think about it....at this point we do NOT know if this virus is like the measels (ie. once innoculated you are immune) or if it has the potential to re-infect!
Secondly, if we all tested negative TODAY (expensive tests remember) that would seem great, but what about tomorrow or next week after we return from the grocery store, workplace, church, bank, gas station, or team practice ?!?!
This same reasoning applies to athletes, all game officials, facility staff, and media production crews.
Now, IF we learn this virus cannot re-infect - and then only after everyone gets innoculated with a working vaccine, then I submit a reasonable facsimile of sports and gambling might proceed somewhat close to normal.

To my thinking, this all boils down to getting that vaccine before we can truly return to normal (notwithstanding the social and economic impacts between now and then)
Coronaviruses like SARS and MERS are already known to live on any surface for up to 9 days, making a vaccine even more important.
But of course, major pro leagues are indeed going to at least attempt to resume without the vaccine, despite the risks, and the very real possibility of having to shutdown again in mid-season.
I do however, fear for college athletics.
