    XFL Firing already

    League a mess

Pepper Johnson, was has been affiliated with both the Giants and Jets in his football career, was abruptly fired from his XFL gig only hours removed from the league's beginning over the weekend.

Johnson, 55, was employed by the Los Angeles Wildcats as their defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. The team announced he was relieved of his duties on Monday.

The Wildcats had lost their inaugural game, 31-17, to the Houston Roughnecks, a game which featured winning quarterback PJ Walker tossing four touchdown passes.

This has been tried many many times over the years and a second pro league will not survive competing against NFL

I think the difference this time is sports gambling is legal in many states and growing. If the product is good and you can bet on it, it will survive.

I actually watched a couple of games and it wasn't bad. Placed a few small wagers and made like 5 bucks. I'll probably watch it again.

There is definitely a demand for a league in the spring, whether it is called XFL or Alliance of whatever.

I personally had little interest in betting this league. Too much work getting to know the rosters and players and coaches and how they all mesh together. Rather stick with what I already know

The two punters in the Dallas game on Sunday were elite level I thought.

The USFL almost was and we were thissss close to be talking about it today instead of the NFL.

But highly doubtful something like that happens again

Sports betting is not big enough to make a monetary impact on the league. The bulk of the sports betting revenue would go to the states. If the product makes money it will survive and its not gonna. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Do they even drug test in the XFL?

No instant replay either from what I saw.. Can't throw a red flag in this league.

they have instant replay, and it's a lot faster than what the NFL uses

    Coolest rule: Instant replay

The transparency the XFL has with instant replay is so awesome. On the TV broadcasts, you can hear the replay booth taking a look at each call, and the replay officials are mic’d up:

I think this is a great way for fans to understand the decision-making process on certain calls, and having a better understanding of certain rules, too. I’d love to see something like this from the NFL’s replay center in New York.

I kinda enjoyed watching the games. The fast play with the shorter play clock is good. Hearing what’s the thought process in the instant replay reviews is also good. Of course, they are things that were not great. Just needs a little tweaking and some more brand name guys.

Someone should throw money at Antonio Brown, Manziel, etc to bring a spotlight on the league.

Jibby do you even own a TV?

The coolest part of the broadcast was listening to the communication with the booth and looking at what the replay official was doing.

Only thing I worry about gambling in this league is the potential of at least one of these low income players taking a heavy payout to throw the game.

i watched a little of the first game. it is hard to learn the new players and such.

my real hope is 2K sports makes a new football game for the XFL that takes over the video game world and makes Madden work harder again.
