    Troy Polamalu vs. Ed Reed

They were both Defensive Player of the Year once, in 2004 and 2010, respectively. Reed had 9 Pro Bowls and 5 first-team All-Pro selections to Polamalu’s 8 and 4. For what it’s worth – and who knows – Polamalu has Reed beat on Super Bowls, 2-1.

    Who was better?

I watched them both a lot. I think Reed might have been a bigger presence in the secondary and pass defense.

Troy was more flashy and more than any player I've watched had a knack for making the HUGE spectacular game changing play in the most crucial of moments. Some of his sacks, tackles for loss, and run stops were just unreal, his body control in mid air to catch tipped balls ect was unreal. Guy was always flying through the air.

but Reed had better pure numbers in pass defense. Troy was more fun to watch

Well, I suppose it all depends on the metric used. If you are talking about conserving water and shampoo, it's got to be Reed.

But to my knowledge there is no other player in NFL history that had their hair insured for $1million by Head and Shoulders.

    So, there's that.

Two of the best to ever play safety. I would take Reed over Troy. He was a coach on the field.

Ed Reed always had a better supporting defense than Polamalu. Troy is better individual.

Reed was the better Pass Defender, and runner with the Ball in his hands. Troy was the better Football player. Honey Badger is Troy Lite. Earl Thomas is Reed Lite.

Yeah, you gotta admit, greatest hair in the NFL. No wonder Troy was able to jump over offensive lines like he did! I believe that hair gave him some lift like wings on a bird!

Reed was the best ball hawk and returner I've ever seen. Sometimes I think he scored more points than the offense.
