    New Jersey dad fights addiction to sports gambling after legalization

    No one has to tell this New Jersey dad of two that online sports betting can be dangerously addictive.

    The 41-year-old North Jersey resident — who only wanted to be identified as Bob — told The Post he recently enrolled in Gamblers Anonymous after becoming obsessed with betting on football games from his smartphone.

    “I bet more frequently’’ after it became legal in Jersey, Bob said.“I bet on 10 or 12 games a day instead of two or three,” he said.

    “Sports betting now is so easy.”Bob told The Post he was placing $2,500 in bets a week on professional and college games.

    “I would place bets on late games if the early games didn’t work out,” he confessed.

    “Over time, you just keep losing. I’d say to myself, ‘Today is my lucky day. I’m going to kill it.’ But it doesn’t happen.

    ”Bob decided to call the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey’s 800-GAMBLER hotline for help and was referred to Gamblers Anonymous for treatment.

    He has now gone to three meetings in person and also participates in conference calls by telephone.

    “I haven’t gambled in four or five weeks,” he said.Bob said he now watches fewer sports games because “it can create a trigger” for him to bet again.

    He said he doesn’t object to New York legalizing mobile sports betting — as long as it sets aside money to help compulsive gamblers.

    Gotta keep ur shiznibbet together and play by bankroll rules. God is my witness. I've only put $75 bux into draftkings in the 4+ years I've been playing. And I won $25;k on a $3 NFL all day turkey day card. .(came in 3rd place). I've already pulled 24k off draftkings leaving a hundo to pick my spots. The rest I've paid my loans off, and will open a new bank account and a new Bitcoin account on a new laptop that I'll only use for financial transactions. I don't need to deposit anywhere as in sports book or poker because I'm already bankrolled and prefer to win my bankroll up. Although with sports I mite add 2k to my bankroll which is really just a $20-$40 wager. * And I never chase really. (minimal)

    Well Bankers they say if you shoot up heroin for the first time you will become addicted and a slave to it immediately. That's a rude drug and VERY hard to get off of!!! Some drugs need to stay out of society just because they are too addictive. I think heroin is one of them. Opioids getting there too.

    Still ya gotta teach your kids from the crib - DON'T EVER PUT A NEEDLE in your body to get high. The minute you do that son or daughter you are done in this family. I was taught that and never did.

    I smoked shiit though over the years. I never got into pills much either. Today I'm sober from smoking shiit or any kind of pills but probably drink a little too much..

    Just gotta be smart and not reckless in life.. Control your demons in the closet.

    I have to question the legitimacy of this article. So a 41 year old dad who has never bet before is all of a sudden a degenerate gambler because it became legal in his state? Assuming he has no prior history of addiction, he'll be fine. Sorry, addicts don't just appear at 41 because the state you live in happened to legalize something.
